The youngest festival has two racing days.

On Friday it features the richest race for two year olds in Germany, the Ferdinand Leisten Memorial BBAG Sales race. On Sunday will be held  two group races – the Gr.III “THE LÄND Trophy” and the Gr.III Preis der Winterkönigin, the most important race for two year old fillies in the country.

History of racing at Baden-Baden – Iffezheim

Since the mid 19th century pure thoroughbreds have been racing at Iffezheim near Baden-Baden at the doorstep of the Black Forest. The track was built on the initiative of French casino tenant Edouard Bénazet who wanted to create further attractions for his illustrious guests. The first race was held on September, 5th, in 1858. There were three racing days in the first with the Grosse Preis von Baden being the highlight – like it is today.

After the French-German war the Internationale Club took over. Earl Carl Egon zu Furstenberg was the first president. Baden-Baden quickly developed into the leading track in Germany, racing only interrupted by two World Wars. 1951 the modern era started. In 1963 the first yearling sales were held – later leading to the Baden-Badener Auktionsgesellschaft BBAG, which is located near the racetrack in Iffezheim.

In 1972 a second Festival additional to the Great Festival Week at the end of August was added – the Spring Festival in May. Since 2004 there also is the Sales & Racing Festival in October. In 2010 Baden Racing took over as organizer of the races under the leadership of President Dr. Andreas Jacobs, who is an internationally recognized breeder and owner of thoroughbreds in Germany, England and South Africa.

On the day you can easily get an upgrade at the scales office. If you wish a reserved seat, we do recommend however to book early, in particular for the Sundays.

OWNERS & TRAINERS LOUNGE

For the owners and trainers, we converted the restaurant above the scales Area on the 1st floor of the Technical Building as the official Owners & Trainers Lounge.

We wanted to create a central meeting point for the active participants, that is as close as possible to the action.

Directly above the jockey room and weighing area, it is only a few steps to the parade ring, the saddle boxes and the winners enclosure.

Our catering partner offers a small menu with a moderate price-performance for the physical well-being.

In order to revive old traditions, the reception after each award ceremony will be held in the demarcated area of the Owners & Trainers Lounge.
