Big Week, August 29–September 6, 2026, in Baden-Baden • Iffezheim:
Who Will Shape the Future? A Top Event for Up-and-Coming Thoroughbreds on the New After-Work Race Day
Baden-Baden-Iffezheim, August 30, 2026 (MH) – It is one of the top events for young racehorses. Whoever finishes at the very front here has a bright future ahead: The 153rd Renate and Albrecht Woeste – Future Race (Group III, 55,000 euros, 1,400 m) on Tuesday (September 1), sponsored by the Honorary President of Deutscher Galopp and his wife, is the main attraction on the newly structured third day of the “Grosse Woche” at the racetrack in Baden-Baden-Iffezheim. Instead of the Wednesday event held in previous years, Baden Galopp is now presenting, for the first time, an “After Work” race day on Tuesday that extends into the evening.
Who will succeed Gostam?
None other than Gostam, who has won three Group races so far in his career, sets the bar for the promising two-year-olds as last year’s champion. Throughout the history of this race, horses from abroad have often played a decisive role. This time, two English youngsters—Baarberini (K. Shoemark) and Gymbaazy (D. Muscutt)—will be lining up at the start, though the local field certainly has no reason to feel outmatched.
Western Is the Top Favorite
Owner Eckhard Sauren has Western (T. Hammer-Hansen) in the race—a stallion who recently made a very impressive debut in Munich and is predicted to have a very bright future. Tango Dancer (M. Seidl), who finished second in that race, is also back in the lineup. Bozok (B. Murzabayev)’s winning debut was also very convincing. Indigo Sun (B. Marie), the runner-up in the BBAG Auction Race in Cologne, will be making an appearance in the seven-horse field.
A great supporting program until shortly after sunset
Tuesday’s supporting program is also quite impressive, with nine races scheduled starting at 3:40 p.m. (several races will also be broadcast to France; the gates open at 2:00 p.m., and the last race will be run shortly after sunset at 8:15 p.m.).
Derby Rematch at the 2026 BBAG Yearling Auction
52,000 euros in prize money will be awarded in the 2026 BBAG Yearling Auction Stakes over 2,400 meters, a race that serves as a prelude to the most important auction of thoroughbreds on Friday, September 4—the BBAG Yearling Auction. The Andiamo Racing Club and trainer Fabian Xaver Weißmeier are hoping for a home victory by Yacomo (S. Vogt). Alongside him, three other Derby starters will be competing here. Pellegrino (A. Pietsch) from Karoly Kerekes’s stable will also be representing the local training center.
International Mare Highlight
Promising three-year-old and older fillies will compete in the Coolmore Stud Baden-Baden Cup (Listed race, 30,000 euros, 1,400 m). An extremely international field from Germany, England, France, and Poland is set to take the starting gate. Expected to be among the frontrunners is certainly the two-time winner Demah (C. Lecoeuvre), trained by top French trainer Francis-Henri Graffard for Al Shaqab Racing (a leading racing stable owned by the Al Thani royal family of Qatar).
Attractive Special Bets
Of course, bettors will once again get their money’s worth. The four-horse parlay will be offered twice—with a guaranteed prize pool of 10,000 euros in Race 3 (2026 BBAG Yearling Auction Stakes) and Race 8 (Class IV Handicap, 1,400 m). There’s also 10,000 euros to be won in the V4 bet across Races 6 through 9.
