Big week in Baden-Baden - Iffezheim from August 29 to September 5
Who does the "future" belong to? Young gallopers in the big test
Baden-Baden/Iffezheim, August 30, 2021 (MH). The second day of the Great Week 2021 at the racecourse in Baden-Baden-Iffezheim belongs to the youngest racehorses: The Renate-und-Albrecht-Woeste-Zukunftsrennen on Wednesday, September 1, is, as the name suggests, groundbreaking for the future careers of the two-year-old young gallopers, who will compete for 50,000 euros in the Group III test on the 1,400-metre racetrack.
A year ago, the top mare Reine d'amour and Juanito, then owned by professional footballer Timo Horn, fought an epic duel to the finish line with a narrow advantage for the lady from Gestüt Auenquelle. This time, nine horses from England, France and Germany will line up in the starting boxes. The partners are Honorary German Gallop President Albrecht Woeste and his wife Renate.
Old jockey champion with top chances
In the battle for the winning purse of 30,000 euros, Arnis Master brings along old master Jozef Bojko (50) from Axel Kleinkorresn's Mülheim racing stable: Arnis Master, a 10,000 euro bargain from last year's BBAG yearling auction, won the Cologne auction race in grand style and more than paid off his purchase price.
Rocchigiani, in Baden-Baden with champion jockey Bauyrzhan Murzabayev, made a great debut two months ago as winner of the Youngster Prize in Mülheim. Schwarzer Peter, who won the Vorteilswelt-Cup in Krefeld three weeks ago, will start in Baden-Baden with 54-year-old Andreas Helfenbeian. Germany's best female race rider Sibylle Vogt will ride Antharis, who won in France.
Strong guest from England
However, the English guest mare Qipao with Joe Fanning is likely to be the favorite: She is trained by Mark Johnston, the trainer with the most victories on the island. She already has two victories to her name. In contrast, the French rider Shake Shake Shake with young rider Leon Wolff is only considered an outsider in the nine-strong field.
Bettors can look forward to a guaranteed payout of 10,000 euros in the trifecta.
Attractive supporting program
A total of eleven races will take place in Iffezheim on Wednesday. The first four races will also be broadcast to France, which is why the opening class starts at 11.35 am. Other attractions include the Coolmore Stud Baden-Baden Cup, a Listed race over 1,400 meters for mares with guests from France, Sweden and Hungary, with prize money of 25,000 euros. The €52,000 prize of the BBAG Yearling Auction over 2,400 meters is also considered particularly attractive. Here, Iffezheim trainer Carmen Bocskai has an interesting hope at the start with Utamaro under Sibylle Vogt.
There is a lot to be won in the four-horse races. 22,222 euros are up for grabs in the 11th race (level IV, 2,400 meters), 11,111 euros in the 6th race (level IV, 1,400 meters). 1,000 euros are up for grabs as the jackpot in the 8th race.
Derby winner Sisfahan vs. Torquator Tasso on Sunday
The most important race of the Great Week is the 149th Wettstar Grand Prix of Baden on Sunday, September 5. Seven horses are provisionally eligible for the Group I race over 2400 meters with prize money of 160,000 euros.
Derby winner Sisfahan under jockey Andrasch Starke will face Group I winner and last year's third-placed Torquator Tasso, among others. The other candidates are: Kaspar, Nerium, Pessemona, Vallando and Isfahani with Clement Lecoeuvre. The final starting field will be announced on Thursday.
