PRESS RELEASE
Sales & Racing Festival from October 18 - 20, 2024 in Baden-Baden - Iffezheim:
What a day for Stefan Hahne in Iffezheim: Turlow is followed by Daydream Express
Baden-Baden-Iffezheim, October 18, 2024 (MH) - Breeder and owner Stefan Hahne from Vallendar is unlikely to forget the opening Friday of the Sales & Racing Festival at the racecourse in Baden-Baden-Iffezheim in a hurry. Because he was able to celebrate two victories with Turlow in a youngster test and with Daydream Express in the level I class.
Turlow justifies the huge trust
Promising young gallopers might have been seen in the opening 1,400 m race, when Stefan Hahne's Turlow (B. Murzabayev) fully lived up to his role as the hot 1.6:1 favorite, even though he had to fight more than expected against the outsider Daquan, who put up a brave fight.
Daydream Express flies away from everyone again
"He had offered himself in the last two or three weeks. We'll see where he goes from here," reported trainer Peter Schiergen, who had lined up a horse for Stefan Hahne for the first time. Turlow is a son of the legendary stallion Soldier Hollow, who retired too early. Kolumban, the hope of the Turf Syndikat Baden-Baden, was very pleasing in third place, as was the other Iffezheim representative Pershing, who finished fourth together with Kelani and had left a few chances at the start.
Hahne's second coup was due in the €20,000 Equalization I over 1,800 metres, when Daydream Express (5.2:1) from Henk Grewe's Cologne quarters superiorly put the outsiders Muhalif and Lightning Jock in their place. The four-year-old Kingman daughter's fifth win of the season was an impressive affair. Winning rider Stefanie Koyuncu said: "I had already won with her once before in Krefeld. Even then I knew that she was a racehorse. She proved that today."
Mathayl also makes the favorite bettors happy
The favorite bettors also came into their own in a three-year-old test, but even the 2.1:1 chance Mathayl from Andreas Wöhler's successful Spexard stable had to do a lot in a 2,200-meter competition against Oak Lahoma and Anno Vego to come close to scoring his first career win. Dubai-based major owner Jaber Abdullah has also had a number of gallopers prepared in this country for many years.
"I was sure that we had won," admitted jockey Eduardo Pedroza. "I thought it would be easier, but the mare clipped a bit in the middle of the straight, but it worked out."
Dutch lucky buy
The Dutch guest Done Decision turned out to be an absolute lucky buy. The gelding, prepared by Romy van der Meulen for her sire Lucien, who had already put himself in the limelight here at the Grosse Woche, became the perfect fourth winner of the season in a 1,600-meter Ausgleich III (a race in the T. von Zastrow Handicap Series) with prize money of 20,000 euros. With Thore Hammer-Hansen, the number one in the current jockey statistics, the 10.6:1 outsider said goodbye to Switsch, Donna Helma and Freigeist early on. The four-horse bet paid 10,223.3:1 euros.
Bauyrzhan Murzabayev at least partially made up for his second place with Dhitjari in the Ferdinand Leisten-Memorial when he led Christian Sprengel's Sporting Hunter (9.2:1) to a safe win against Red Nugget and Aguna in a 1,600 meter handicap.
Bauyrzhan Murzabayev and Peter Schiergen even made it a perfect third day in the final 2,400 meter equalizer III, when Schlenderhan's Ibicenca (3.3:1) was very safely ahead against Mount Everest, Almenkönig and Emmeci. The four-way bet brought 383.1:1 euros.
Strong sales growth
In the seven races on Friday, betting turnover amounted to €321,458.97. That is an increase of 17 percent compared to 2023. BBAG's fall auction started after the race day and will continue on Saturday.
Season finale on Sunday with two top highlights
The big 2024 season finale at the racecourse in Baden-Baden-Iffezheim will take place on Sunday, October 20. The highlights of the nine races are the Carla Kellner Zukunftsrennen - Preis der Winterkönigin (Group III, 155,000 euros, 1,600 m) and the Baden Galopp Herbst-Trophy (Group III, 55,000 euros, 2,400 m).
