PRESS RELEASE
Sales & Racing Festival from October 18 - 20, 2024 in Baden-Baden - Iffezheim:
Dream result for Peter Schiergen in the Ferdinand Leisten Memorial
Baden-Baden-Iffezheim, October 18, 2024 (MH) - Dream result for Cologne-based trainer Peter Schiergen in the most valuable race of the Sales & Racing Festival on Friday in front of 3.350 spectators at the racecourse in Baden-Baden-Iffezheim on Friday: With Square Carnot (Sibylle Vogt, odds of 5.4:1) as the winner ahead of the favorite Dhitjari, the successful coach provided the top two finishers in the Ferdinand Leisten Memorial - BBAG Auction Race (200,000 euros, 1,400 m), the memorial race for the functionary, auctioneer, owner and breeder who died in 1995.
Somewhat surprisingly, it was not Dhitjari, who finished second in the Renate and Albrecht Woeste - Future Race, who took the 100,000 euro prize money, but his training partner Square Carnot. The two-year-old son of Taj Mahal, bred in France, developed much greater reserves in the final straight than Dhitjari, who was already well ahead at the front, and easily pulled clear of his brave rival by two lengths.
Allofs for the third time
The owners of Square Carnot, who landed his second win in his third start, are the Munich racing club president Michael Motschmann, Klaus Allofs (former German national soccer player and sports director at Fortuna Düsseldorf, as well as vice president of the Düsseldorf riding and racing club, who had already won the race twice with Wake Forrest and Principe) and trainer Peter Schiergen.
Dhitjari was defeated in all honors, holding second place against the outsider Düx, behind whom Shiraz also surprised very positively in fourth place. The higher-ranked Gracia and Vive en foret no longer played a role early on.
VOICES:
Sibylle Vogt (jockey of Square Carnot): "We didn't have an ideal starting box, but still a nice position. I took my cue from Dhitjari, was perhaps a little early in front, but it turned out well. I was happy that I didn't have to decide who I would ride."
Peter Schiergen (trainer of Square Carnot and Dhitjari): "Dhitjari is a very fast horse. He was in front, slowed down a bit, but the running is all right. Square Carnot only runs good races. In Düsseldorf he lost the race at the start."
Klaus Allofs (co-owner of Square Carnot): "I had selected the stallion from afar at the BBAG yearling auction. It was also important to me that he was eligible in France, as there are nice premiums there. I won the race today for the third time as co-owner."
Markus Klug (trainer of Düx): "He ran super, especially as the distance was a bit short for him. We might now start in the auction race in Munich."
Hugo Boutin (jockey of Gracia): "The distance was too far for her as a sprinter."
