Press release
Big Week from August 30 - September 07, 2025 in Baden-Baden - Iffezheim:
Great anniversary at the start of the Great Week 2025 with the 70th Prize of the Sparkassen-Finanzgruppe
Baden-Baden-Iffezheim, August 27, 2025 (MH) - A big anniversary at the start of the 2025 Great Week: The Prize of the Sparkassen-Finanzgruppe (Group III, €55,000, 2,000 m), which follows in the tradition of the Spreti-Rennen, will be held for the 70th time on Saturday, August 30, 2025 at the racecourse in Baden-Baden-Iffezheim. It is the first of six group races in the top racing week at Germany's most important hippodrome, which runs for five days until September 7. A total of around 1.5 million euros in race prizes (including breeders' premiums) will be paid out. You can look forward to first-class racing and top-class betting opportunities.
Emotional moment with Quest the Moon?
The 70th Prize of the Sparkassen-Finanzgruppe, once again under the patronage of the bank, will once again be a meeting of seasoned group horses. At nine years old, the oldest participant is also a crowd favorite par excellence: Quest the Moon (R. Piechulek), trained by Sarah Steinberg in Munich, is already a nine-time winner with winnings of well over 400,000 euros. Some of his top hits came in Iffezheim, such as in the Kronimus - Grosser Preis der Wirtschaft 2020 and in this test in 2021. He has also finished third and fourth in this race. Even at a mature age, he won a group race in 2025 (a few weeks ago in Hamburg). It should also be much easier here than in the recent Dallmayr Grand Prix. He could provide a special emotional moment here. A few days ago, his owner Hans-Gerd Wernicke (Stall Salzburg), who regularly attended the races in Iffezheim and was extremely successful here, passed away. Quest the Moon was one of his absolute showpiece gallopers.
International global player with Diego Ventura on board
Wathnan Racing, one of the global players in international equestrian sport from Qatar (the racing stable of Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani), is attacking with Diego Ventura (F. Bughenaim), who was prepared in England and brings a strong group placing from Goodwood with him.
With Arnis Master (A. Starke), who has just won at Group level in Italy, Petit Marin (D. Liska), who is always a real threat on a top day, and the former serial winner Daydream Express (L. Wolff), there are also a number of aces in the rest of the field.
Who has the most stamina?
Of course, the supporting program on the opening day is also very appealing. Eight races will be held. The first start is at 13:30. Stamina is required in the Stall Siepenblick 2.8 - Steher Cup (Listed race, €25,000), which is run over a distance of 2,800 meters. Partnun (M. Abik) is on the verge of success here, as the mare only just failed to win by a minimal margin in Hoppegarten against a real distance specialist. Breeder and owner Lothar Grabe is the partner of the test and will present the owner of the winner with a choice of two honorary prizes.
First-class betting offers
There are several betting attractions: In Equalization I (€20,000, 1,600 m, 6th race) there is a guarantee of €30,000 in the trifecta (including a jackpot of €10,583.94). 10,000 euros each will be paid out in the four-horse bet of the 4th race (level IV, 2,000 m) and the 8th race (level III, 1,600 m). 10,000 euros are also up for grabs in the V4 bet in races 5 to 8, where the four winners of these races have to be predicted.
