PRESS RELEASE
Spectacular start to the spring meeting with the 47th Kronimus Baden Mile
Baden-Baden-Iffezheim, May 27, 2025 (MH) - A great start to the three-day Spring Meeting 2025 at the racecourse in Baden-Baden-Iffezheim. On Thursday (May 29, Ascension Day), the season will kick off at Germany's premium racecourse, which is eagerly awaited by turf fans, before two further top racing events are held on Saturday, May 31, and Sunday, June 1, under the direction of Baden Galopp. On the race-free Friday, May 30, visitors can look forward to the BBAG Spring Auction, for which a breeze-up of two-year-old horses will be held the day before.
Around 620,000 euros will be paid out in race prizes (including breeders' premiums) at the Spring Meeting. 27 races are scheduled.
The opening day (May 29) already offers the best sport. The 47th Kronimus Badener Meile (Group III, 55,000 euros, 1,600 m) under the patronage of the Iffezheim concrete block group will be a test of strength for the mile aces. Kronimus has been one of the most loyal partners of the races in Iffezheim for decades.
The search is on for the successor to Gestüt Ebbesloh's Arcandi, who triumphed here a year ago. Cologne trainer Henk Grewe appears to be brilliantly equipped with two hopefuls: Eckhard Sauren's Penalty (T. Hammer-Hansen) triumphed here in 2024 in the Brunner-Oettingen-Rennen and became a class winner. The three-year-old Namaron (B. Flandrin) recently impressed when winning the Dr. Busch Memorial in Krefeld. Best Lightning (H. Boutin), who is also trained in Cologne by Andreas Suborics and won this test in 2022, is well known here and has always been a contender ever since. There is also Switsch (A. de Vries), an absolute serial winner.
Filly hopefuls in the big test
Talented four-year-old and older mares are heading for the Baden-Badener Hotellerie & Gastronomie Prize (Listed race, €25,000, 2,200 m). Helmut von Finck's Gestüt Park Wiedingen is currently rushing from one success to the next. Here he has a hot iron in the fire with the recent Listed winner Egina (A. de Vries). The Iffezheim training center is also represented by Tanami Starlet (B. Flandrin) from Gerald Geisler's stables.
Several betting attractions
Of course, there will be plenty of attractions for all weather conditions on the first day of racing. A total of nine races will be held, with the first start at 13:30. The four-man bet will be offered three times. Races 3, 5 and 9 offer guaranteed payouts of 10,000 euros each. 10,000 euros are also up for grabs in the V4 bet in races 6 to 9, where the winners of four consecutive races are up for grabs.
