PRESS RELEASE
Big Week in Baden-Baden - Iffezheim from August 29 to September 5, 2021
GermanDerby winner Sisfahan challenges Torquator Tasso / Strong guests from England and France / Exquisite racing and betting program -
Baden-Baden/Iffezheim, September 2, 2021 (MH). A total of twelve gallop races, including the most important race for three-year-old and older horses in Germany, a mile highlight and much more: the final day of the Great Week at the racecourse in Baden-Baden - Iffezheim on September 5 will be a highlight of the year for German racing.
The 149th Betting Star Grand Prix of Baden attracts national and international four-legged stars. It is presented by the most important broker of horse betting in German racing. The Group I race, with prize money of 160,000 euros, is run over 2400 meters.
Favorite Sisfahan will make his first appearance here after his triumph in the German Derby in Hamburg at the beginning of July: The stallion, trained by Henk Grewe in Cologne, will start for the Darius Racing stable of Stefan Oschmann, Munich.
With Germany's top jockey Andrasch Starke in the saddle, Sisfahan will meet the older stars for the first time. These include, above all, Torquator Tasso from Gestüt Auenquelle, trained by the up-and-coming trainer Marcel Weiß from Mülheim and ridden by jockey René Piechulek. Last year's third-placed rider from Baden-Baden caused a sensation at various top events and was named "Galloper of the Year 2020". Most recently, he was only beaten by the mare Alpinista in the Berlin Grand Prix after an unfavorable race.
Another candidate in the race for the Grand Prix is Sisfahani's stablemate Isfahani, ridden by Michael Cadeddu in Baden-Baden: she proved her class as runner-up in the Henkel Prize of Diana in Düsseldorf. Kaspar, ridden by Maxim Pecheur, is another group winner from 2021.
The strongest competitors for the German stars come from abroad: the Frenchman Millebosc under Adrie de Vries came third in the derby in the neighboring country. After three victories in a row, the renowned Godolphin stable of Sheikh Mohammed from Dubai is represented this time by the serial winner 'Passion and Glory' under the English top jockey Oisin Murphy. Passion and Glory recently won a group race at Goodwood.
Pessemona with jockey Eduardo Pedroza and Vallando under Marco Casamento are regarded as outsiders in the expected eight-strong field.
Mile elite in the 88th Kronimus-Oettingen Race
With the 88th Kronimus-Oettingen-Rennen, Baden Galopp also presents the elite meeting over the mile, i.e. 1600 meters. The Group II race is endowed with 65,000 euros. Novemba from Gestüt Brümmerhof is one of the favorites. Jockey Sibylle Vogt achieved the first success of a female rider in a classic race in Germany with the mare in the '1,000 Guineas' in Düsseldorf. This team will compete together again here. Jin Jin under jockey Maxim Pecheur and Liberty London, ridden by Eduardo Pedroza, are also top-class mares. Guests from France and Spain enrich the ten-strong field.
The sponsorship of the Iffezheim-based company Kronimus AG has a long tradition of more than 36 years. It ranges from group sponsorship (Grand Prix of the Baden Economy) from 1972 - 1984 to the name sponsorship of the Kronimus Race since 1985 to today's Kronimus-Oettingen Race.
Arabian thoroughbreds & betting spectacle
Another fixture is The-President-of-the-United-Arab-Emirates-Cup. The Listed race over 1600 meters, with prize money of 40,000 euros, is regarded as the best race for Arabian thoroughbreds in Germany. The program also includes a level I race and a race for the Mehl-Mülhens Foundation's Young Talent Award.
The first of twelve races in the final program starts at 11:20 am. Races 1 to 4 and the Grand Prix will also be broadcast to the 13,000 betting shops in France via PMU. The race day offers a special highlight for bettors: 80,000 euros are guaranteed to be paid out in the four-horse betting on the 7th race, including a jackpot of 20,956 euros: a record this year in Germany! The only person to correctly predict the first four horses will receive this sum, otherwise it will be split. 11,111 euros are up for grabs in the four-horse bet of the 12th race. In addition, there is a guaranteed payout of 22,222 euros in the trifecta of the 9th race, including a jackpot of 7,925 euros.
