Big week in Baden-Baden - Iffezheim from August 29 to September 5
Impressive success for the young galloper in the Renate and Albrecht Woeste Future Race
Baden-Baden/Iffezheim, September 1, 2021 (MH). Almost three years after the death of Graciano Rocchigiani, another Rocchigiani "boxed" his way through: The young galloper named after the legendary boxer won the Renate-und-Albrecht-Woeste future race at Iffezheim racecourse on Wednesday. The Group III race over 1400 meters on the second day of the Great Week 2021 in Baden-Baden was endowed with 50,000 euros.
The stallion, trained by Peter Schiergen in Cologne for the Domstadt stable of management consultant Till Grewe, impressed in the first race for the two-year-old gallopers in 2021 with a length and a half lead over Arnis Master and Calif. Rosenart finished fourth ahead of the disappointing English favorite Qipao.
Rocchigiani, who remains unbeaten after two starts as the 4.8:1 co-favorite and earned 30,000 euros here, easily pulled away from his rivals from the front of the field on the home straight. The victory was already clear well before the finish - in a competition sponsored for the first time by Albrecht Woeste, Honorary President of the Dachverband Deutscher Galopp e.V., Cologne, and his wife Renate.
"We were already very tense, as Rocchigiani was one of the co-favorites, and he also took his time to move into his starting box. But we were very optimistic, as the trainer also had a lot of guts. Now we are happy," assured owner Till Grewe. Grewe, who has already owned very good gallopers in the shape of Rocchigiani's brother Ross and the "cult horse" Egon, is also the breeder of the Time Test son.
Other voices of those involved:
Bauyrzhan Murzabayev, jockey of the winner Rocchigiani: "The victory was very easy. We had a super race. Rocchigiani is a young horse with a lot of potential. I am over the moon."
Peter Schiergen, trainer of the winner Rocchigiani: "I had expected an even stronger performance on his debut in Mülheim; today he showed what he is capable of. I was there at the start, where he needed some time. Everything went smoothly in the race. He could run in the Preis-des-Winterfavoriten or on the Arc weekend in Paris."
Axel Kleinkorres, coach of second-placed Arnis Master: "It's a bit difficult to be at the front from behind in a race like this. But his performance was very good, we can really live with that."
Helmut Kappes, manager of the second-placed Arnis Master: "He first had to find his way into the race slowly, then he developed a high top speed. If he had had a clear track a little earlier, perhaps more would have been possible. But we are very satisfied."
Dominik Moser, trainer of third-placed Calif: "That was another very good ride by Wladimir Panov. Calif is still a little immature, but the performance is impressive."
Joe Fanning, jockey of fifth-placed Qipao: "I still had a good feeling on the last corner, but the battery ran out on the last stretch. I am very disappointed."
