PRESS RELEASE
Spring Meeting from May 30 - June 02, 2024 in Baden-Baden - Iffezheim:
Arcandi is Germany's big mile star - Sovereign triumph in the 46th Kronimus Baden Mile
Baden-Baden-Iffezheim, May 30, 2024 (MH) - He is the clear star galloper among the German mile horses: Arcandi, the four-year-old gelding from Peter Schiergen's successful Cologne stable, cemented his pole position after his recent success in the Kalkmann Spring Mile in Düsseldorf with another victory on Thursday, the first day of the spring meeting, at the racecourse in Baden-Baden - in the 46th Kronimus Badener Mile (Group III, €55,000, 1,600 m). Once again, this top-class race was sponsored by the Iffezheim-based Betonstein-Weltkonzern, one of the most loyal and important partners of the races in the Baden racing village.
In front of 15,150 spectators - over 2,000 more than in 2023 - in bright sunshine (contrary to all weather forecasts), a rather slow-paced race developed that was certainly not to everyone's taste. But Arcandi had no problems with this. In the middle of the home straight, Bauyrzhan Murzabayev, who had returned to Germany a few weeks ago after a one-year intermezzo in France and a stay of several weeks in Japan, made a decisive attack with the 3.8:1 favorite and immediately set the course for victory. The son of Zarak, who recorded his third win at his seventh start and added 32,000 euros in prize money to the account of the Ebbesloh stud of the von Schubert publishing family from Bielefeld, galloped away from his seven rivals by three lengths. Muhalif held on well from second position and narrowly saved the place of honor against the French guest Kendly, who attacked dangerously for a short time. Best Lightning did not have a smooth race, but still took fourth place ahead of Aguirre, who had dominated the moderate trip for a long time. Asterix and Dapango were soon on the retreat. The well-bet Westminster Night was even pushed to the back of the field.
VOICES:
Bauyrzhan Murzabayev (jockey of Arcandi): "He is a very good horse that you have to park on the move. He should gallop relaxed. That worked out well. When there was a small gap on the home straight, I used it. He reacted really well."
Peter Schiergen (Arcandi's trainer): "When everything fits, he has a lot of class. He found a good position in the race and was put to the best possible use by his jockey. Perhaps we are now heading for the Grand Prix of the Economy in Dortmund."
Bohumil Nedorostek (Muhalif's coach): "Actually, 1,800 to 2,000 meters suits him even better in my opinion. That was a super performance against the best miler. His next goal is a 2,000 meter Group III race in Hamburg."
Lukas Delozier (jockey of Kendly): "I am very satisfied. On slightly softer ground he might even have finished second."
Andreas Suborics (trainer of Best Lightning): "The race was too slow for him. And unfortunately he didn't have a clear track on the straight. The winner was unbeatable, but a second or third place would have been possible."
Markus Klug (coach of Aguirre): "Only just ahead of Aguirre was Best Lightning, who had arrived from Düsseldorf in good form. So I'm satisfied with the first start to the season."
