Two group highlights, an auction race and 692,000 euros in prize money and breeders' premiums at the Sales & Racing Festival in Iffezheim
Baden-Baden-Iffezheim, October 07, 2025 (MH) - First-class races and a top-class auction - the Sales & Racing Festival from Friday, October 17 to Sunday, October 19, 2025 will once again be the grand finale of the season at Baden-Baden-Iffezheim racecourse under the direction of Baden Galopp. Six weeks after the Big Week, it's time for another round at Germany's premium hippodrome. 17 races are scheduled on the two race days with a total prize money of 692,000 euros (including breeders' premiums). Two group races, the most valuable auction race in Germany and the BBAG Autumn Auction are the top attractions before the winter break in Iffezheim. Of course, there are also attractive guaranteed payouts for the bettors.
Entries for the majority of the races closed today (Tuesday, October 7). A total of 190 horses (excluding auction and group races) were entered for the Sales & Racing Festival.
Following the race day on Friday, October 17, starting at 5 p.m. and on Saturday, October 18, starting at 10 a.m., around 300 horses will be offered at the BBAG Autumn Auction.
The sporting highlights of the two race days of the Sales & Racing Festival 2025:
Friday, October 17:
Ferdinand Leisten-Memorial (BBAG Auction Race, 200,000 euros, 1,400 m):
The most valuable BBAG auction race, which is also the race with the highest prize money at the Sales & Racing Festival, offers a top opportunity to earn money - the Ferdinand Leisten Memorial. The €200,000 race over 1,400 meters for two-year-old horses commemorates the legendary functionary, auction gatekeeper, owner and breeder Ferdinand Leisten, who died in 1995. This race has been run in Iffezheim since 2004. Youngsters who were offered in the auction ring at the BBAG the year before are eligible to start. The owner of the winning horse receives an impressive 100,000 euros.
Cologne's successful trainer Henk Grewe, who could be represented by Nardos and Perito, the runners-up in the BBAG Auction Race in Cologne, who made a very impressive debut in Hanover, is likely to have the best chances. Andreas Wöhler's Avyaan won the BBAG Auction Race in Düsseldorf.
Among the eight races on Friday, a level II over 1,600 meters stands out from the supporting program. The first start is at 10:58 am. Of course, bettors will also get their money's worth on both days, some of which will also be broadcast to betting offices in France, with attractive guaranteed payouts in the V4 betting and the four-horse betting.
Sunday, October 19:
Carla Kellner Zukunftsrennen - Preis der Winterkönigin (Group III, 155,000 euro, 1,600 m:
The most important race for two-year-old mares in Germany - the Carla Kellner Zukunftsrennen - Preis der Winterkönigin - is once again under the patronage of the Kellner family from Baden-Baden. The Group III test over 1,600 meters comes with prize money of 155,000 euros. The event was launched in Mülheim an der Ruhr in 1959. With the first Sales & Racing Festival in 2004, the race moved to Iffezheim. Whoever wins here is usually the favorite over the winter for the mare classic for the German 1,000 Guineas the following year. A year ago, Nicoreni, who went on to win the Henkel Prize of Diana, won the race.
Valzeina, prepared by Henk Grewe, is coming off a win in a BBAG auction race in Dortmund. Iffezheim trainer Fabian Xaver Weißmeier could be represented with Madame Magic. Gestüt Röttgen's Alsterperle was second in a trial in Cologne for trainer Maxim Pecheur.
B.A.U. Herbst Trophy (Group III, 55,000 euros, 2,400 m):
The 2025 Group season in Baden-Baden will conclude with the Herbst Trophy, which is being supported for the first time by B.A.U. GmbH & Co. KG from Mannheim for the first time. 55,000 euros are up for grabs in the Group III competition over the 2,400-meter course. The search is on for the successor to Assistent.
Ittlingen-bred Lordano is a multiple group winner. Delgardo was a strong second in the WETTSTAR.de - Preis der Deutschen Einheit at Hoppegarten. The mare Partnun has just secured the Silver Ribbon of the Ruhr in Mülheim. Local rider Gerald Geisler may be in contention with last year's runner-up Tanami Starlet.
A Compensation I (25,000 euros) over 2,000 meters and the final race for the Mehl-Mülhens Foundation's Young Rider Prize for riders up to the age of 30 are further attractions within the nine races. The first start is scheduled for 11:10 am.
Stephan Buchner, Managing Partner of Baden Galopp: "We are very satisfied with the entry result. There are some head-turning handicap races on the horizon that are very interesting both in sporting terms and for the bettors. We are looking forward to our 2025 season finale with great anticipation."
Extensive supporting program
Of course, there will also be numerous attractions for visitors in addition to the green turf. True to the motto "OktoberFESTival", there will once again be a free beer event with a keg tapping at the beer stand from 10.15 am, accompanied by music from the Munich Allstars.
The Oktoberfest fun activity involves completing various hands-on stations. At the end, three Oktoberfest party packages will be raffled off among the participants. Fashion-conscious visitors can take a picture of themselves at the Kugelblitz photo box at the secretariat.
There you can also take part in the traditional costume competition, where valuable prizes await the winners. Once again, the best-dressed couple will also be honored by the jury.
So every visitor to the Sales & Racing Festival should get their money's worth. Tickets are available (at a discount) online at www.badengalopp.de or at the box office.
