Baden Galopp, the operator of the racecourse in Baden-Baden | Iffezheim, is pleased to announce that the new starting machine has arrived in time for the Great Week starting on August 27th.
It was delivered in individual parts and then assembled on site in 2 days. "Baden Galopp now has the most modern and newest starting machine in the whole of Germany. It has a number of advantages over its predecessor. Above all, it is more horse-friendly thanks to many details," explains Stephan Buchner, Managing Partner.
The individual boxes are fitted with continuous padding to minimize the risk of injury to horses and riders. Visually, the starting machine is designed to be more open at the front. The front doors have been designed to eliminate potential dangers such as getting stuck. Overall, the manufacturer Fornells, based in Nangis near Paris, has placed the comfort and safety of the riders at the center of all further developments.
Technically, the new acquisition is also better equipped: the tires are twice as wide as before. This distributes the pressure on the ground more evenly, which benefits the terrain, especially in wet conditions. The starting machine is operated electro-hydraulically and is doubly secured. In the unlikely event of an electrical failure, the machine can also be opened mechanically. A maximum of 18 horses can start the race from the individual boxes of the new starting machine, which consists of two parts. The wider part comprises 14 starting boxes, while a further, connectable part comprises 4 boxes. However, the design of the machine means that it is 2 meters wider overall than the old one. Following tests at the various starting positions, this means that in some positions only 17 horses can start instead of the previous 18. However, the organizer is happy to accept this restriction in view of the significantly higher safety standards.
