The sporting highlights of the Sales & Racing Festival 2024:
Friday, October 18:
Ferdinand Leisten-Memorial (BBAG Auction Race, 200,000 euros, 1,400 m):
The most lucrative auction race of the Baden-Baden Auction Society, which has been run here since 2004, commemorates the functionary, auctioneer, owner and breeder Ferdinand Leisten, who died in 1995. The owners of two-year-old horses offered in the auction ring at the BBAG can look forward to an impressive 200,000 euros. The owner of the winner will receive 100,000 euros. 30 youngsters are currently still listed.
A very prominent name is Gestüt Ebbesloh's Dhitjari from the stable of Peter Schiergen, the colt was a strong second in the 151st Renate and Albrecht Woeste Future Race on this track. Iffezheim trainer Gerald Geisler is currently represented with two candidates - Baas and Bandida Estrellita.
Seven races will be held on the first day of the meeting, including a €20,000 Compensation I over 1,800 meters. The same amount of money is also on offer in a level III race over the mile. This race is part of the T. von Zastrow Top Handicap Series, in which the trainer with the most points receives a cash prize of 2,500 euros, the second-placed 1,250 euros and the third-placed 750 euros. In addition, 500 euros will be donated to the stable fund of the winning training stable. Bohumil Nedorostek and Dr. Andreas Bolte are tied for the lead ahead of the final two races. Excitement is therefore guaranteed.
The first start is scheduled for 13:15 (course opens at 12 noon). Two four-way bets are planned, each with a guaranteed payout of 10,000 euros. The V4 bet also offers 10,000 euros.
Sunday, October 20:
Carla Kellner Zukunftsrennen - Preis der Winterkönigin (Group III, 155,000 euros, 1,600 m):
Who will be crowned the best two-year-old mare in Germany? This question will be answered in the Carla Kellner Zukunftsrennen - Preis der Winterkönigin on the last race day of the year in Baden-Baden, which is under new patronage for the first time. In the most important race for the young ladies, prize money of 155,000 euros will be paid out over the 1,600 meter course.
Two years ago, the prize money for the Group III class was raised to 155,000 euros, which means that the prize money is exactly on a par with that of the Winter Favorite. This test was founded in Mülheim an der Ruhr in 1959, and since the introduction of the Sales & Racing Festival in 2004, Iffezheim racecourse has been the home of the Winter Queen. The winner is generally regarded as the provisional favorite for the first mares' classic in the following season, the 1,000 Guineas. A year ago, Shagara from Schlenderhan triumphed.
30 candidates are currently still eligible for the Winterkönigin, including Gestüt Park Wiedingen's Santagada, who showed off in great style in the Renate und Albrecht Woeste Zukunfts-Rennen at the Grosse Woche here, and Goldaue, who won the Winterkönigin Trial in Cologne in commanding style. Brümmerhof's Quebec, who was a clear winner in Hanover, is also one of the most interesting mares.
Autumn Trophy (Group III, 55,000 euros, 2,400 m):
The last group race of the year in Iffezheim is the Autumn Trophy, which is in the tradition of The Länd Trophy and the Baden-Württemberg Trophy. 55,000 euros in prize money is up for grabs in this Group III competition over 2,400 meters.
The field currently comprises 20 horses, including the Preis von Europa runner-up Straight, the Derby third Augustus, the WETTSTAR.de St. Leger winner Prydwen from England, the multiple group winner Assistent and the Iffezheim mare Tanami Starlet.
The final race for the Mehl-Mülhens Foundation's Young Rider Prize for riders up to the age of 30 is another item on the program of the nine races that are expected to take place.
All bettors will also get their money's worth on this day with several four-man bets and the V4 bet. The first start is scheduled for 13:30 (course opens at 12 noon).
