Big Week from August 27 - September 4, 2022 in Baden-Baden - Iffezheim:
Six group races with many class horses at the Great Week 2022
Six group races on a total of five racing days and total prize money including breeders' premiums of more than 1.3 million euros, the Great Week from August 27 to September 4, 2022 at the racecourse in Baden-Baden-Iffezheim promises to be another festival of horse racing. After the corona-related restrictions of recent years, visitors can now look forward to a full week at the Oos again.
Of course, the 152nd Wettstar Grosser Preis von Baden (Group I, 200,000 euros, 2,400 m) on September 4th is the absolute scoop, but the other five group races also promise top-class sport. The entry results from today, Tuesday, July 12, are truly impressive.
67. Prize of the Sparkassen-Finanzgruppe
On the opening day (Saturday, August 27), Grand Prix horses will meet in the 67th Prize of the Sparkassen-Finanzgruppe (Group III, 55,000 euros, 2,000 m) over the medium distance. 32 candidates from England, France, Sweden and Germany have been given a commitment, including the Derby runner-up Schwarzer Peter and the serial winner India.
International sprint duel in a class of its own
Germany's best sprint race, the 152nd Casino Baden-Baden Goldene Peitsche (Group III, 55,000 euros, 1,200 m) will dominate the first Sunday, August 28. England, France, Sweden, Spain, the Czech Republic and Germany are the countries of the named horses. With 46 horses, a spectacular entry result has been achieved, including last year's winner Kitty Marion from Spain.
Youngster in action
The most promising young gallopers (born in 2020) will meet on Wednesday, August 31, in the 149th Renate and Albrecht Woeste - Future Race (Group III, 55,000 euros, 1,400 m). 38 horses have been entered for this highlight, including Power Daddy and Habana, two very impressive youngsters of late. In addition, French super footballer Antoine Griezmann has a hot iron in the fire with Start Me Up.
Focus on top mares
In keeping with Ladies Day, the T. v. Zastrow Stutenpreis (Group II, 70,000 euros, 2,400 m) on Saturday, September 3rd, is reserved for the four-legged ladies. 31 mares have been entered for this class, including last year's Winter Queen Lizaid, the Oaks d' Italia winner Nachtrose, last year's winner Waldbiene, the current Hamburg winner Amazing Grace, the aforementioned Magdeburg Group winner India, as well as Gestüt Röttgen's Group winners Wagnis and Well Disposed.
Pile on the final day
In addition to the Grand Prix on Sunday, September 4, you can look forward to top horses in the 89th Oettingen-Rennen(Group II, €70,000, 1,600 m) on the final day. Last year's 1,000 Guineas winner Novemba is one of the 25 registered horses, as is Best Lightning, who took the 44th Kronimus Badener Meile at the spring meeting. Defending champion Radaballo could return from Spain. The Englishman Stormy Antarctic is still known from his success at the Badener Meile in 2018. Rocchigiani, the runner-up from the 37th Mehl-Mülhens-Rennen, and the former Galopper of the Year Rubaiyat also enrich the field. This race will remain open for further entries for another week.
Stephan Buchner, Managing Partner of Baden Galopp: "Once again, we are delighted with the number of entries. Across all races, we have significantly more entries than in the years 2019 to 2021 and there is nothing left to be desired in terms of internationality either. The results in the Golden Whip and the Future Race are particularly sensational. Of course, entries are not yet starters, but we are sure that we will offer all racing fans a top-class Great Week. The anticipation in our team is gigantic".
