Sales & Racing Festival from October 14-16, 2022 in Baden-Baden - Iffezheim:
"Moonrise" by Vintage Moon at the Ferdinand Leisten Memorial
Baden-Baden/Iffezheim, October 14, 2022 (MH) "Moonrise" in pouring rain - that was the motto at the start of the Sales & Racing Festival on Friday at the racecourse in Baden-Baden-Iffezheim: Vintage Moon (3.2:1:1 favorite) set the pace in the Ferdinand Leisten-Memorial, the BBAG Auction Race over 400 meters with the 200.000 in prize money in the BBAG Auction Race over 1,400 meters, continued the festival weeks of Gestüt Auenquelle (Rödinghausen) and trainer Marcel Weiß (Mülheim).
Less than two weeks after Torquator Tasso's third place in the Prix de l' Arc de Triomphe, the two-year-old stallion Vintage Moon, who was also bred by the Endres and Ellerbracke families, triumphed in this race in memory of the legendary auctioneer, functionary, breeder and owner Ferdinand Leisten with jockey Wladimir Panov by one and a quarter lengths and defended his clean slate at the second start.
100,000 euro prize money
100,000 euros in prize money was the reward for a very strong performance by the hopeful, who pulled away decisively from the competition from the front midway through the straight and was not put under pressure even by the outsider Waldzauber, who made a powerful charge from far back, and the mare Waldeza, who never let up. Mister Hollow, who led for a long time, held on to fourth place ahead of the Iffezheim youngster Night Counter, who briefly seemed to have the best chances. The stronger bets Postman and Willibald finished in the beaten field.
Voices:
Wladimir Panov (jockey of Vintage Moon): "He is a very cool horse that I could ride like a car."
Marcel Weiß (trainer of Vintage Moon): "It was his lowest distance today, but as he has a lot of class, we decided to compete here, especially as the race was also very lucrative. Vintage Moon prefers longer distances. We will take our time with the owners to decide whether he will run in the Ratibor race in Krefeld in November."
Andreas Suborics (trainer of Waldzauber): "He ran super, I am very satisfied. Waldzauber straightened out his weaker form from his second start. He was a bit unlucky at the start, but the last 300 meters were strong. Now he goes into the winter break."
Wilhelm Feldmann (Waldeza's racing manager): "Everything was fine, she fought all the way to the finish."
Henk Grewe (trainer of Mister Hollow): "The stallion sold very well."
Gerald Geisler (trainer of Night Counter): "We were briefly on an emotional wave in the home straight and thought he could win, but the performance was strong. He still has an option in the auction race in Munich."
