PRESS RELEASE
Sales & Racing Festival from October 18 - 20, 2024 in Baden-Baden - Iffezheim:
With Nicoreni: Sibylle Vogt and Peter Schiergen are also the dream team in the Winter Queen
Baden-Baden-Iffezheim, October 20, 2024 (MH) - The Sales & Racing Festival at the racecourse in Baden-Baden-Iffezheim was also the meeting of trainer Peter Schiergen and Germany's best race rider Sibylle Vogt: Two days after their triumph with Square Carnot in the Ferdinand Leisten-Memorial, this team also won the Carla Kellner Zukunftsrennen - Preis Winterönigin (Group III, 155,000 euros) on Sunday in front of 8.100 spectators, this team also won the Carla Kellner Zukunftsrennen - Preis der Winterkönigin (Group III, 155,000 euros, 1,600 m) with the 8.7:1 outsider Nicoreni.
The Brametot daughter, owned and bred by the Ebbesloh stud of the von Schubert publishing family, defended her clean slate after her debut win at the Große Woche and took the 85,000 euro purse.
It was clear early on in the home straight that Nicoreni would be the celebrated winner here. From the first starting box, the lady broke away in great style from battling rivals, some of whom were really battling it out, to take a three-length lead. Only the Frenchwoman La Guapisima, who moved up to second place ahead of Bella Sinfonia, who ran a strong race. The favorite Goldaue was very unlucky on the home straight when she was unable to find a passage and had to change lanes several times. In fourth place, she was completely undervalued. The other candidates seriously had no chance.
The most important race for two-year-old mares in Germany was held under the patronage of Carla Kellner, the granddaughter of Rainer Kellner, who is the owner of Carmen Bocskai in Iffezheim.
VOICES:
Sibylle Vogt (Nicoreni's rider): "I've placed in this race several times, but I've never won. Today was a dream come true for me. I am very happy for the Schiergen family and Gestüt Ebbesloh. We had an ideal track on the outer rails with contact. I thought we were a bit too early, but the mare solved everything beautifully.
Gisela Schiergen (wife of Nicoreni's trainer Peter Schiergen): "It's indescribable how the mare has implemented everything. She is completely uncomplicated. Sibylle gave her a fantastic race. Now we'll see how Nicoreni overwinters and then continue next year."
Christopher Head (trainer of La Guapisima and Ginger Ale): "I'm very happy with La Guapisima, she sold very well here. Ginger Ale was still too immature for a race like this."
Adrie de Vries (jockey of La Guapisima): "That was very good. The mare has a great character. After a moment of weakness, she came back again."
Andreas Wöhler (trainer of Bella Sinfonia): "The restlessness in the race didn't help her and threw her off her stride a bit. But we achieved our minimum goal."
Marcel Weiß (coach of Goldaue and Sympathie): "The question mark for Goldaue was the ground. That was the main reason for their performance. Unfortunately, the course of the race turned out to be unfavorable, but that's how races are sometimes. With Sympathie, we didn't know in advance what her performance in the Dortmund auction race would be worth. She had no options."
