With Nicoreni: Sibylle Vogt and Peter Schiergen are also the dream team in the Winter Queen
Baden-Baden-Iffezheim, October 20, 2024 (MH) – The Sales & Racing Festival at the racetrack in Baden-Baden-Iffezheim also marked a successful outing for trainer Peter Schiergen and Germany’s top female jockey, Sibylle Vogt: Two days after their triumph with Square Carnot in the Ferdinand Leisten Memorial, this team also won the Carla Kellner Zukunftsrennen – Preis der Winterkönigin (Group III, 155,000 euros, 1,600 m) on Sunday in front of 8,100 spectators with the 8.7-to-1 long shot Nicoreni.
The daughter of Brametot, owned and bred by the Ebbesloh Stud of the von Schubert publishing family, maintained her perfect record following her debut victory at the Grosse Woche and claimed the 85,000-euro purse.
It was clear early on in the home stretch that Nicoreni would be the celebrated winner here. Starting from gate one, she pulled away in grand style from her battling rivals—some of whom were really locking horns—to build a three-length lead. The only one who could keep up was the French horse La Guapisima, who managed to move up to second place, ahead of Bella Sinfonia, who put in a strong performance. The favorite, Goldaue, had a lot of bad luck on the home stretch when she couldn’t find a clear path and had to change lanes several times. Finishing fourth, she was soundly beaten despite her potential. The other contenders didn’t stand a chance.
The most important race for two-year-old fillies in Germany was held under the patronage of Carla Kellner, the granddaughter of Rainer Kellner, who is listed as the owner in Iffezheim alongside Carmen Bocskai.

Sibylle Vogt (Nicoreni’s rider): “I’ve placed in this race several times before, but I’d never won it. Today, a dream of mine came true. I’m very happy for the Schiergen family and the Ebbesloh Stud. We had an ideal track along the outside rail with good contact. I thought for a moment that we might be a little too early, but the mare handled everything beautifully.”
Gisela Schiergen (wife of Nicoreni’s trainer, Peter Schiergen): “It’s indescribable how that mare pulled it all off. She’s so easy to handle. Sibylle rode her to a fantastic race. Now we’ll see how Nicoreni does over the winter and then continue next year.”
Christopher Head (trainer of La Guapisima and Ginger Ale): “I’m very pleased with La Guapisima; she performed very well here. Ginger Ale was still too immature for a race like this.”
Adrie de Vries (jockey of La Guapisima): “That was very good. The mare has a great temperament. After a brief lapse, she managed to bounce back.”
Andreas Wöhler (Bella Sinfonia's trainer): “The commotion during the race didn't help her and threw her off her stride a bit. But we achieved our minimum goal.”
Marcel Weiß (trainer of Goldaue and Sympathie): “For Goldaue, the big question mark was the track surface. That was the main reason for her performance. Unfortunately, the race unfolded unfavorably, but that’s just how races go sometimes. As for Sympathie, we didn’t know beforehand what her performance in the Dortmund Auction Race was worth. She didn’t stand a chance.”
