PRESS RELEASE
Big Week from August 26 - September 03, 2023 in Baden-Baden - Iffezheim:
Master ride by Germany's best Amazon decides - Mansour surprises in the 68th Prize of the Sparkassen-Finanzgruppe
Baden-Baden-Iffezheim, August 26, 2023 (MH) - A masterful ride by Germany's best rider Sibylle Vogt (28) in her former home town of Baden-Baden-Iffezheim decided the first group race of the Great Week on Saturday: From start to finish, the Swiss-born rider dictated the action on the six-year-old Tai Chi son Mansour (odds 8.4:1), trained by Pavel Vovcenko in Bremen-Mahndorf, in front of 8.400 spectators in the 68th Prize of the Sparkassen-Finanzgruppe (Group III, 55,000 euros, 2,000 m). In an underdog decision, Sibylle Vogt, who now works for Peter Schiergen in Cologne, mobilized huge reserves on the fourth-placed horse from the Grand Prix of the Badische Wirtschaft at the spring meeting, when Mythico's 16.2:1 chance already seemed to be over.
After many strong performances at the highest level, it was a well-deserved win for Mansour, who scored his eighth career goal on his 22nd start, the most important success of his career. Owner Angelika Muntwyler, who also bred the newly crowned group winner herself, will receive 32,000 euros in prize money. She used to live in Switzerland for a long time and has since acquired a small farm in the Lüneburg Heath, where all of her former horses are at home. In addition to Mansour, Pavel Vovcenko has two other four-legged friends in training.
Mythico holds out for a long time
Mythico, who was only beaten into second place by a neck, recalled his best form ahead of the highly rated Petit Marin, who was the only one to get close to the front horses, but was unable to overtake them and had to be satisfied with third place.
Aemilianus held on to fourth place without being able to exert any more influence, ahead of the favorite Best of Lips, who only finished fifth from last place. The other contenders soon eased off. The first highlight of the Big Week took place in perfect racing weather and pleasant temperatures.
VOICES:
Sibylle Vogt (Mansour's rider): "This is unbelievable. Mansour is a horse close to my heart. I won two Listed races with him last year. I like the way he fights."
Pavel Vovcenko (Mansour's coach): "He always showed good form. Only that little bit of luck was missing sometimes. Everything was perfect today. The rider did a super job. Mansour was able to go undisturbed at the front. Maybe the Preis der Deutschen Einheit on October 3rd in Hoppegarten is a goal."
Jean-Pierre Carvalho (Mythico coach): "Our tactics worked. Everything went as planned. It's just a shame that he hung a little on the inside and didn't quite get into the lane on the outside, otherwise it might have been enough. To run so strongly in this class at the age of five is great. Mythico has a nomination for the Prix Dollar on the Arc weekend in Paris and the Preis der Deutschen Einheit in Hoppegarten."
Markus Klug (coach of Aemilianus): "He ran his form consistently again. It was his first start with blinkers at 2,000 meters, so I'm satisfied."
Andreas Suborics (trainer of Best of Lips): "When you have to carry one or two kilos more in the group class, it's hard. But he didn't canter very well today either."
