PRESS RELEASE
Big Week from August 24 - September 01, 2024 in Baden-Baden - Iffezheim:
Young hopefuls on their way to the top in the 151st Renate and Albrecht Woeste - Future Race
Baden-Baden-Iffezheim, August 26, 2024 (MH) - The gallop stars of tomorrow will be the focus of the third meeting day of the 2024 Grand Prix Week on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, at the racecourse in Baden-Baden-Iffezheim. Because in the 151st Renate and Albrecht Woeste Future Race (Group III, 55,000 euros, 1,400 m), the focus will be on the youngest active racehorses, the two-year-old youngsters. Sponsor is the Honorary President of the German Gallop Association and his wife.
The successful Cologne trainer Peter Schiergen is well prepared - with Gestüt Ebbesloh's Dhitjari (B. Murzabayev), who recently won the BBAG Auction Race in Cologne, and Gestüt Park Wiedingen's debut winner Santagada (S. Vogt). But the rest of the field is also teeming with up-and-coming horses such as Turf Sumy (R. Piechulek) and Let's Attack (T. Hammer-Hansen), who have already distinguished themselves.
Guest victories have been the order of the day in the history of the competition. This time, Balzarini (A. de Vries) and Assertively (C. Lee), two horses from England, and Supido (I. Mendizabal), a candidate from France owned by soccer star Antoine Griezmann, will be competing.
Strong and extensive supporting program
The supporting program is also excellent and extensive. Due to the live broadcast of the first five races in neighboring France, the first of a total of ten starts will take place at 11:40 am.
Three-year-old hopefuls are heading for the prize of the BBAG Jährlings-Auktion 2024, a €52,000 auction race organized by the Baden-Baden auction company, which is holding Germany's most important auction of (one-year-old) racehorses on Friday, August 30.
After a very promising performance in the Fürstenberg race at Hoppegarten, Argentum (B. Murzabayev), who also comes from the Schiergen stable and wears the successful colors of the Liberty Racing 2022 owners' association, appears to be the first choice. Gerald Geisler is represented by Tuppes (C. Berge), who belongs to Cologne-based ambulance entrepreneur Holger Renz. The breeder and owner, who always gives his horses Cologne names, even has a trio at the start.
Mare highlight under Coolmore patronage
Coolmore Stud is one of the world's leading turf stud farms and has been a partner of the races in Iffezheim for many years. At the Große Woche, this connection is expressed in the Coolmore Stud Baden-Baden Cup (Listed race, 25,000 euros, 1,800 meters). Three-year-old and older mares can increase their breeding value here.
Sarah Steinberg, the newcomer trainer from Munich in recent years, is relying on New York City (R. Piechulek) for Ebbesloh Stud. It looks much easier for the mare here than in the last tasks. But she will have to deal with highly interesting guests such as Strong Impact (J. Mitchell) from Roger Varian's top English stable, the French filly Bubble Sign (I. Mendizabal) and the Godolphin mare Magical Hope (A. de Vries).
Within the other card, a Compensation I (20,000 euros, 2,200 m) is particularly appealing. 10,000 euros are paid out in the four-way bets on the 3rd race, the 5th race and the 10th race. 10,000 euros can be earned in the V4 bet in races 7 to 10.
Interesting: There will be a sibling duel in the final race, as Sofie Hammer-Hansen (18) will complete her first ride and meet her brother Thore Hammer-Hansen (24), who leads the jockey statistics.
