Big Week from August 24 - September 01, 2024 in Baden-Baden - Iffezheim:
International top-class athletes come to Ladies Day at the start of the final weekend of the Big Week
Baden-Baden-Iffezheim, August 29, 2024 (MH) – The final weekend of the 2024 “Große Woche” kicks off at the Baden-Baden-Iffezheim racetrack with Ladies Day on Saturday, August 31: The spotlight will be on the fillies in all of the day’s highlights. The top event is the T. v. Zastrow Stutenpreis (Group II, 70,000 euros, 2,400 m), a race for three-year-old and older fillies and mares, once again held under the patronage of the von Zastrow family, a major supporter of racing in Iffezheim.
The top favorite comes from Sir Mark Prescott’s premier English stable: Tiffany (L. Morris) is still well known in Iffezheim for her easy victory in the Preis der Baden-Badener Hotellerie & Gastronomie at the spring meeting. Since then, the four-year-old has shone twice more, winning a group race in Newcastle and finishing a strong second in the Lancashire Oaks at Haydock. With Lmay (R. Havlin), yet another filly from the UK is making the trip.
An Unusual Success Story
The German hopeful Princess Badee (M. Cadeddu) has an unusual success story. She is the first horse owned by 19-year-old Bastian Dietze, who scored a major coup when she won a Group race in Hamburg. Trainer Christian Sprengel from Hanover trains only eleven horses, and naturally, this mare is his number one.
Iffezheim's Hope, Sacaya
Iffezheim-based trainer Carmen Bocskai is pinning her hopes on Listed winner Sacaya (M. Forest), after finishing second in this race in 2023 with Kolossal. North Reliance (R. Piechulek) finished a strong third that year and is back in the field again. Former jockey Maxim Pecheur, who became a trainer at Gestüt Röttgen just this season and has already won the Henkel – Preis der Diana with Erle, is banking on Brümmerhof’s Narmada (M. Seidl), who has yet to be beaten in her two starts this year. Following a highly successful weekend, Cologne-based trainer Andreas Suborics is well-positioned here with Diamond Crown (H. Boutin), also representing Gestüt Brümmerhof.
In the Wackenhut Fillies Cup (Listed race, 25,000 euros, 1,400 m) as well, the goal is to significantly boost the breeding value of fillies. An international field is set to compete. Guests from England and France are challenging the German fillies. Panarea (A. Starke) from France, racing for Dubai’s ruler Sheikh Mohammed (Godolphin Stables), wears particularly prominent colors.
Test for the Winter Queen
The BBAG Winter Queen Stakes, the premier race for 2-year-old fillies at the Sales & Racing Festival in October, is the ultimate goal for the contenders in the Gestüt Etzean Winter Queen Trial (10,000 euros, 1,600 m).
Exciting Races
The schedule for the penultimate day of the “Grosse Woche” features nine races. The first race starts at 1:30 p.m. Betting enthusiasts are in for a treat once again with two four-race parlays. A prize of 10,000 euros will be awarded in each of the 4th and 9th races. Another 10,000 euros is up for grabs in the V4 parlay covering races 6 through 9.
