Iffezheim is looking for the derby winner!
Baden-Baden-Iffezheim, May 28, 2025 (MH) - Baden-Baden-Iffezheim racecourse is looking for the Derby winner! That will be the motto on Saturday, May 31, 2025, on the second day of the Spring Meeting. Because five weeks before the most important gallop race of the year on 6 July in Hamburg, the Japan Racing Association Derby Trial under the patronage of one of the world's largest racing organizations) is a particularly important test at the heart of the program.
In 2023, Fantastic Moon, who went on to win the Blue Riband, triumphed. A year ago, Stall Lucky Owners Augustus won the race and subsequently came third in the Blue Riband. In the €55,000 Group III test over 2,000 meters, his trainer has two hopefuls at the start this time with Eagle Emblem (H. Boutin) and Next Mine (T. Hammer-Hansen).
Cologne-based trainer Peter Schiergen seems to be well prepared as he has Path of Soldier (R. Piechulek), who was successful in the WETTSTAR.de - Bavarian Classic, for Helmut von Finck's Park Wiedingen stud. He will once again be up against the then third-placed Aquaman (L. Wolff) from Henk Grewe's successful stable, who can follow in the footsteps of 2023 winner Fantastic Moon, who went on to win the Blue Riband, for owners Liberty Racing. Adrie de Vries, the jockey of the moment, is the helmsman of the Frenchman Juwelier in the field of six.
Youngsters and top handicappers
Of course, the supporting program also has a lot to offer. The first race for two-year-old horses in Germany, the BBAG Badener Jugendpreis (15,000 euros, 1,000 m), will take place within the eight races (first start at 1:30 pm). The field is stronger than it has been for a long time, with even English guests doing the honors.
An equalizer I over 2,000 metres is endowed with 20,000 euros. With Vaisseau Fantome (E. Pedroza) and Lion's Head (N. Baltromei), the in-form Mülheim trainer Yasmin Almenräder is doubly equipped.
In the four-man bet in races 4 and 8, there are guaranteed payouts of 10,000 euros each. 10,000 euros can also be won in the V4 bet (races 5 to 8).
Lotta goes Special Olympics - Race on 31.05.25
What is behind this special race title at the spring meeting? Lotta Berglund is a remarkable young woman. She was born with a rare genetic defect and the fact that she is still alive today is more than a miracle. A team of eight 24-hour nurses look after her around the clock so that she can get on with her daily life outside the hospital where she has spent many years of her life.
She suffers from various life-threatening illnesses that have kept her in intensive care for many years.
No one would ever have believed that Lotta would learn to speak or walk - but even after three resuscitations with all their consequential damage, she has never lost one thing: her irrepressible will and her courage to fight for her dreams. Lotta came into contact with racehorses at an early age, competed in pony races herself as a child and still enjoys helping in the racing stable and leading horses in races (preferably the mare "Burning Rose" owned by trainer Manfred Weber from Iffezheim), as far as her health allows. For several years she was active in the project management of the racing stable just4turf at Junger Galopp e.V.. Many people in racing know her and her fate and admire her for her will to live.
Lotta's biggest dream is to take part in the 2029 Special Olympics World Winter Games in figure skating. To achieve this, she trains three times a week at ERSC Ottobrunn with her coach Marc Delbrouck.
But the road to the World Games is still long, rocky and, above all, very expensive. We want to support Lotta a little along the way and have therefore dedicated a race at the Spring Meeting to her. Firstly, she will be presenting her story and promoting her fundraising campaign to finance her participation in the Special Olympics World Winter Games.
On the other hand, we at Baden Galopp are also making our contribution and will transfer 5% of the German betting turnover in this race to Lotta's donation account. Betting is therefore compulsory in this race. Let's make Lotta's dream come true together!!!
