Press release
Big Week from August 30 - September 07, 2025 in Baden-Baden - Iffezheim:
Gostam is facing a golden future!
Baden-Baden-Iffezheim, September 03, 2025 (MH) - He is not only a horse with a golden future, but also currently Germany's best two-year-old young galloper: Gostam (3.4:1 favorite), trained by Andreas Wöhler in Spexard near Gütersloh for Darius Racing by Stefan Oschmann and for Michael Motschmann, dominated his seven opponents in the 152nd Renate und Albrecht Woeste - Zukunfts-Rennen. Sponsored by the Honorary President of Deutscher Galopp and his wife and endowed with 55,000 euros, the Saxon Warrior son dominated this Group III test over 1,400 meters at all times, just as he had done on his debut in Munich.
Under Eduardo Pedroza, Gostam immediately conquered the lead and set himself apart early on. 32,000 euros was the prize money for the stallion acquired at the 2024 BBAG Yearling Auction from the Gestüt Fährhof Foundation. Gostam, who put the Wöhler/Pedroza team back on the winner's podium here three years after Habana, pulled clear by two lengths from the English guest Commander's Intent, who was the closest rival for a long time before Zuender followed up very strongly and finished a good third. Voitton was fourth and led the rest of the field, none of whom had a better chance.
VOICES:
Eduardo Pedroza (jockey of Gostam): "He had a brief look on the way, but always had full power. I hope he stays healthy, then all doors will be open to him."
Andreas Wöhler (Gostam's trainer): "Gostam came out of the starting gate quickly, but then calmed down well. He always picked up speed and was very confident."
Holger Faust (Racing Manager of Gostam): "The pace was very fast, as you could see from the average speed. Gostam showed his class early on at home. He is now heading for the Winter Favorite prize. Of course, the Derby is the goal next year."
Adrie de Vries (jockey of Commander's Intent): "He only failed on a very good horse and only let up a little at the end."
Hella Sauer (Zuender's trainer): "He was very nervous in the lead ring, but calmed down at the starting gate. Maybe it wasn't good that we went back in the distance, just like box one wasn't ideal because everything went to the outside. I think he will be at home at 1,600 to 1,800 meters in the long run. Nevertheless, the performance was very good."
Henk Grewe (coach of Voitton and Perito): "Voitton's performance was decent. Perito was a bit disappointing."
