Rain of money for the young gallopers in the Ferdinand Leisten Memorial
Baden-Baden-Iffezheim, October 16, 2024 (MH) – A windfall for the owners of promising young racehorses on the first day of the Sales & Racing Festival on Friday, October 18, 2024, at the racetrack in Baden-Baden-Iffezheim: With prize money of 200,000 euros, the Ferdinand Leisten Memorial is the most valuable race of this year’s two-day final meeting organized by Baden Galopp, as well as the highest-stakes BBAG auction race.
This race, which covers more than 1,400 meters, is dedicated to Ferdinand Leisten—an official, auctioneer, owner, and breeder who passed away in 1995—and was surprisingly won a year ago by Wikinger, trained by Gerald Geisler in Iffezheim.
A total of eleven two-year-olds will be competing here this time. Dhitjari (B. Murzabayev)—trained by Peter Schiergen in Cologne for the Ebbesloh Stud, owned by the von Schubert publishing family—might have the best chances; he only needs to improve on his second-place finish in the Renate and Albrecht Woeste “Zukunfts-Rennen” to finish at the very front here. There, during the “Grosse Woche,” he briefly looked like the winner. The stallion also won the BBAG Auction Race in Cologne.
But in this strong field, the competition is fierce, including the mare Gracia (H. Boutin), trained by Andreas Suborics in Cologne, who is fondly remembered here for her victory in the BBAG Auction Race in Iffezheim. Peter Schiergen even has another strong contender in the mix with Square Carnot (S. Vogt).
Top handicap and plenty of betting options
Seven races will be held on Friday in Iffezheim. Among them is a Class I handicap race over 1,800 meters with a purse of 20,000 euros. Iffezheim-based trainer Fabian Xaver Weißmeier will enter the in-form gelding Dhangadhi (M. Seidl) in this race. An equally attractive purse is also up for grabs in a Class III handicap race over 1,600 meters, a race in the T. v. Zastrow Handicap Series featuring particularly attractive prize money. The first race starts at 1:15 p.m. (the gates open at 12 p.m.).
Of course, the betting options for all races are also very appealing. That’s because two four-race parlays are being offered, each with a guaranteed payout of 10,000 euros in the 3rd and 7th races. A further 10,000 euros is up for grabs in the V4 parlay covering races 4 through 7.
Following the horse races, the BBAG auction will begin at 5 p.m. at the adjacent auction grounds. It will then continue on Saturday starting at 10 a.m.
