Mahasti Wins as the Favorite in the 2026 Iffezheim BBAG Auction Race
Baden-Baden-Iffezheim, August 30, 2026 (MH) – The Wetter family had the right instinct in the first highlight of the second day of the “Grosse Woche” at the Baden-Baden-Iffezheim racetrack: At odds of 2.6:1, they backed the two-year-old filly Mahasti in the 2026 Iffezheim BBAG Auction Race (102,500 euros, 1,200 m). And their assessment proved correct, as the filly—from the first crop of classic winner Rubaiyat, who had already shown promise in her debut in Hanover—brought home the 50,000-euro winner’s prize in spectacular fashion for Daring Racing (Stefan Oschmann’s racing stable).
In the home stretch, Mahasti, ridden by Bohumil Nedorostek, had to break Nyela’s tenacious resistance, which she managed to do very confidently as the distance increased. Derby-winning jockey Vladimir Panov rode Mahasti perfectly. “She had made great strides since her last race. Today she was very relaxed and kept her cool—a true racehorse,” the jockey commented. “I think very highly of Mahasti. It took her a little time, but she’s developed wonderfully and has a great personality. The Winter Queen Stakes could be the next goal,” explained trainer Bohumil Nedorostek.
Predicted the victory
“After her debut in Hanover, I said that Mahasti would win in Baden-Baden. By the 200-meter mark today, I had no doubt she would win. She can also handle a 400-meter longer distance, so she should be ready for the Winter Queen race,” said Racing Manager Holger Faust.
Two and a half lengths behind Mahasti, Nyela ran a strong race as expected, finishing second. “She really showed her best side. I’m very happy. Depending on how she matures, we’ll see if she goes straight into the Winter Queen or runs one more race first,” explained her trainer, Maxim Pecheur. Daenerys Lips, who finished third, appeared to have improved. “She was in a good position and made up for her recent form. In the long run, she should be right at home over 1,400 to 1,600 meters,” said trainer Andreas Suborics.
Rakigiana on the Tenth Try
All good things come in tens—that was the motto for Rakigiana (7.2:1), trained by Christian von der Recke in Weilerswist, who, with Rene Piechulek in the saddle, dominated the opening 1,400-meter race from start to finish, leaving favorites Wings of Glory and See That Spark no chance, and thus secured her first victory in her tenth start. The mare had faced significantly tougher competition on multiple occasions in auction races.
Victoria Wilde has been working as an owner-trainer in Iffezheim for just a few weeks. However, in the Mehl-Mülhens Foundation Young Talent Award (Class IV, 1,800 m)—a race for jockeys aged 30 and under—she scored her first victory aboard Laura Dams’ Quijana Starlet (15.6:1), beating Sabiano and Waldblues.
Albrecht Woeste, honorary president of Deutscher Galopp and owner of the Grafenberg stable, celebrated the victory of Laetitia (3.2:1)—trained by Waldemar Hickst—in a 2,400-meter Class III handicap race, in which she comfortably held off Kisha and Black Phantom, ridden by Martin Seidl.
The Windfang, once again
After his win in Hamburg, Windfang (4.6:1)—ridden by Bohumil Nedorostek—followed that up immediately in a Meilen-Ausgleich II race against the fast-closing Leon and Springtime. The finish line was perfectly timed for the stallion, who was ridden aggressively by David Liska. With that, Windfang capped off a great day for his coach.
Another goal for Fabian Xaver Weißmeier
Things continue to go brilliantly for Iffezheim trainer Fabian Xaver Weißmeier. Following his win with Vallando on Saturday, he celebrated another victory in the final Ausgleich II race over 1,200 meters—with Mister Sketch (B. Murzabayev, odds 12.2:1), who edged out the field by a hair’s breadth right at the finish line for Gentlemen Racing. Betting turnover for the ten races totaled 752,900.09 euros.
Third day of racing on Tuesday
The "Grosse Woche" continues on Tuesday with the third day of racing, featuring the 153rd Renate and Albrecht Woeste – Zukunfts-Rennen (Group III, 55,000 euros, 1,400 m). The first race starts at 3:40 p.m. (gates open at 2:00 p.m.).
