Big Week, August 29–September 6, 2026, in Baden-Baden • Iffezheim:
English Victory in the 153rd Renate and Albrecht Woeste – Future Race
Baden-Baden-Iffezheim, September 1, 2026 (MH) – Following the successes of the top German horses Santagada and Gostam in the past two years, one of the most important races for two-year-old thoroughbreds on Day Three of the 2026 Grosse Woche at the Baden-Baden racetrack was held abroad for the first time since 2023: Gymbaazy (3.2:1 co-favorite), trained by Owen Burrows in Lambourn, England, for Green Team Racing, dominated the field on Tuesday in the 153rd Renate and Albrecht Woeste – Zukunfts-Rennen (Group III, 55,000 euros, 1,400 meters). Consequently, in front of 7,000 spectators, the English national anthem “God Save the King” was played following the race, which was sponsored by the honorary president of Deutscher Galopp and his wife.
Ridden by jockey Daniel Muscutt, who was making his debut in this country, the victory of the French-bred son of Siyouni was all but assured well before the finish line, as Gymbaazy—who scored his second win in his third start and earned his owners a 32,000 prize—easily pulled away by two lengths from Indigo Sun, who, as the best German horse, gave chase strongly and delivered another great performance.
There was already some distance behind him to third-place finisher Tango Dancer, who put in a solid performance but never managed to move further ahead. Taylor Made finished not far behind him; he had earned his place by setting the pace. The favorite, Bozok, finished surprisingly early despite starting from a favorable position and ended up in last place.
VOICES:
Daniel Muscutt (Gymbaazy’s jockey): “We were in a good position right from the start; my horse liked the soft ground and handled it brilliantly. Today was my first time riding in Germany. I really enjoyed my time here in Iffezheim.”
Sean Muscroft (travel feed manager at Gymbaazy): “He had raced twice before and had already won a race. Over the past month and a half, the stallion has shown significant improvement. The track conditions were perfect for him.”
Andreas Suborics (Indigo Sun’s trainer): “We didn’t know exactly where he stood. As the best German horse, he performed superbly. He was able to relax well during the race. Either he’ll run one more time this year, or we’ll call it a season.”
Maxim Pecheur (Tango Dancer's trainer): “He kept fighting all the way to the finish and secured a top-three finish. Depending on how he recovers from this race, the auction race in Düsseldorf in just under two weeks could still be a goal.”
Bohumil Nedorostek (trainer of Taylor Made and Bozok): “Taylor Made has improved a lot and came close to a Black Type finish. Bozok’s performance was inexplicable, because he ran a good race. Maybe it was the track.”
