Big Week from August 27 - September 4, 2022 in Baden-Baden - Iffezheim:
Derby runner-up Schwarzer Peter the favorite in the 67th Prize of the Sparkassen-Finanzgruppe at the start of the Great Week 2022
Baden-Baden/Iffezheim, August 24, 2022 (MH). All turf fans in Germany are looking forward to it: the first complete Big Week (after the shortened summer meetings during the Corona pandemic) under the direction of Baden Galopp is just around the corner. From Saturday, August 27, to the crowning final day on Sunday, September 4, 2022, with the 152nd Wettstar.de - Grosser Preis von Baden, the racecourse in Baden-Baden-Iffezheim will once again be a showcase for national and international racing. Over 1.3 million euros will be paid out on the five race days (in the order Saturday, Sunday, Wednesday, Saturday, Sunday). In between, the star gallopers of tomorrow will be auctioned off at the BBAG yearling auction on Saturday, September 3rd.
There are races in a class of their own with no spectator restrictions. Six group races around the appearance of Arc winner Torquator Tasso and Derby hero Sammarco in the Grand Prix at the end and many other top-class sporting events, as well as attractive betting opportunities in the four-horse race - will make the hearts of all fans beat faster.
Who will be Tabera's successor?
On the opening day (Saturday, August 27), Baden Galopp starts with a program of eight races (the first start is at 1:20 pm). The Sparkassen-Finanzgruppe Prize (Group III, 55,000 euros, 2,000 m), held for the 67th time, will take center stage. Three-year-old and older class horses meet here. The search is on for the successor to last year's winner Tabera.
Well-deserved group victory?
After losing the Derby by a wafer-thin margin to Sammarco after a minute-long photo finish, who went on to win the Dallmayr Grand Prix in Munich, Schwarzer Peter (A. Starke), owned by Uwe Aisch (Ingolstadt) and in training with Markus Klug (Cologne-Heumar), could have the best cards here and achieve his first Group win. He has already finished second three times in the Bel Etage of turf. He would certainly deserve the 32,000 purse prize.
Angelika Muntwyler's Mansour (M. Cadeddu), who took a more than respectable third place in the Grand Prix of the Badische Wirtschaft, is also very well remembered in Iffezheim. He is competing for Bremen-Mahndorf trainer Pavel Vovcenko for the first time. Gestüt Paschberg's Queroyal (E. Pedroza) is well known on this track from his success in the 200 Years German Gallop Derby Trial. But Rennstall Gestüt Hachtsee's Lord Charming (B. Murzabayev) has also been on the verge of scoring in this class for some time. The five-strong line-up is completed by Gestüt Röttgen's mare Alaskasonne (with former champion jockey Andreas Helfenbein), who, like Schwarzer Peter, will be saddled by Markus Klug.
A round birthday tribute
The Solms family pays tribute to a milestone birthday in a very special way in the most important race of the supporting program, as the title reveals: Happy Birthday Mami - 80 years of Alexa Gräfin zu Solms Cup (Listed race, €25,000, 2,800 m) for the long-distance specialists in honour of a grande dame of racing. The Swiss-owned Nubius (B. Murzabayev) is closing in on a win after taking the Hoppegarten place of honor, but he will have to contend with guests from England and Sweden. Alerta Roja (L. Morris), owned by Tetra Pak heiress Kirsten Rausing, is particularly dangerous. The much improved Akua'rius (R. Piechulek) from the stable of Torquator Tasso trainer Marcel Weiß should also be given a lot of credit here.
Top attractions for the weather and party after the races
Of course, the bettors also get their money's worth. The four-horse bet is played twice. Whoever predicts the first four horses in the correct order will receive guaranteed payouts of 20,000 and 10,000 euros respectively. After the race day, there will be a big after-race party at the racecourse.
