Big week from 27 August-04 September 2022 in Baden-Baden - Iffezheim:
Derby runner-up Black Peter the favorite in the 67th Prize of the Sparkassen-Finanzgruppe at the start of the Great Week 2022
Baden-Baden/Iffezheim, August 24, 2022 (MH). All turf fans in Germany are looking forward to this: the first complete Great Week (after the shortened summer meetings during the Corona pandemic) under the direction of Baden Galopp is just around the corner. From Saturday, August 27, to the crowning final day on Sunday, September 04, 2022, with the 152nd Wettstar.de - Grand Prix of Baden, the racecourse in Baden-Baden-Iffezheim will once again become a showcase for national and international racing. Over 1.3 million euros will be distributed on the five racing days (in the order Saturday, Sunday, Wednesday, Saturday, Sunday). In between, the star gallopers of tomorrow will be auctioned off at the BBAG yearling auction on Saturday, September 03.
Without spectator restrictions, there are races of the extra class. Six group races around the appearance of Arc winner Torquator Tasso and Derby hero Sammarco in the Grand Prix at the end and many other sporting top-class, as well as attractive betting opportunities in the quadruple bet - let the hearts of all fans beat faster.
Who will be Tabera's successor?
On the opening day (Saturday, August 27) Baden Galopp will start with a program of eight races (the first start will be at 13:20). The Prize of the Sparkassen-Finanzgruppe (Group III, 55,000 euros, 2,000 m), which is being run for the 67th time, is the center of attention. Here three-year-old and older class horses meet. The search is on for the successor to last year's winner Tabera.
Deserved group victory?
After losing the Derby by a razor-thin margin after a minute-long photo finish to Sammarco, who subsequently also won the Grand Dallmayr Prize in Munich, Schwarzer Peter (A. Starke), owned by Uwe Aisch (Ingolstadt) and in training with Markus Klug (Cologne-Heumar), could have the best chance of winning his first group. Three times he was already second in the Bel Etage of the turf. He would certainly deserve to win the 32,000 prize purse.
Angelika Muntwyler's Mansour (M. Cadeddu), who finished a more than respectable third in the Grand Prix of the Baden Economy, is also very well remembered in Iffezheim. He is competing for the first time for Bremen-Mahndorf trainer Pavel Vovcenko. Gestüt Paschberg's Queroyal (E. Pedroza) is well known on this track from his success in the 200 Years German Gallop Derby Trial. But also Rennstall Gestüt Hachtsee's Lord Charming (B. Murzabayev) has long been on the verge of a hit in this class. The five-strong line-up is completed by Gestüt Röttgen's mare Alaskasonne (with veteran jockey Andreas Helfenbein), who like Schwarzer Peter will be saddled by Markus Klug.
Appreciation for the round birthday
The Solms family honors a round birthday in a very special way in the most important race of the supporting program, as the title reveals: Happy Birthday Mami - 80 years of Alexa Gräfin zu Solms Cup (List race, 25,000 euros, 2,800 m) for the long-distance specialists in honor of a grande dame of racing. The Swiss-owned Nubius (B. Murzabayev) is approaching a victory after the Hoppegarten honors, but he is up against guests from England and Sweden. Especially Alerta Roja (L. Morris), owned by Tetra Pak heiress Kirsten Rausing, looks dangerous. The strongly improved Akua'rius (R. Piechulek) from the stable of Torquator Tasso trainer Marcel Weiß should also be expected to do well here.
Top attractions for the weather and party after the races
Of course, the bettors also get their money's worth. The four-horse bet will be played twice. Whoever predicts the first four horses in the correct order will receive guaranteed payouts of 20,000 and 10,000 euros respectively. After the race day, there will be a big after-race party on the racecourse.
