Press release
Big Week, August 29–September 6, 2026, in Baden-Baden • Iffezheim:
The top sprint of the year for the most coveted prize: The 156th Casino Baden-Baden Golden Whip
Baden-Baden-Iffezheim, August 28, 2026 (MH) – No other race in German horse racing is as popular as this one: The top sprint of 2026 at the Baden-Baden-Iffezheim racetrack will thrill fans on Sunday, August 30, the second day of the “Grosse Woche.” The 156th Casino Baden-Baden Golden Whip (Group III, 55,000 euros, 1,200 m), once again sponsored by the casino in the spa town, is drawing short-distance stars from England, France, Germany, and Sweden to compete for a gold-plated whip engraved with the names of all previous winners.
Hamad Al Jehani, a trainer in England, jockey Faleh Bughenaim, and Wathnan Racing (world-famous racing colors) as the owner now aim to secure victory with Holguin—who has been performing very well at home—following The Striking Viking in 2025. The French horse Afandy (I. Mendizabal) is the hope of trainer Jean-Claude Rouget from France, racing in the colors of Al Shaqab Racing, which in turn belongs to the ruling Al Thani family of Qatar. In a few weeks, Rouget will bring his illustrious career to a close after well over 7,000 wins and could secure his final Group victory at Iffezheim.
Additional entries from France and Sweden are making things even more exciting in this top-class field of eleven. Perhaps last year’s runner-up, War Bride (L. Wolff), can now take the lead. The two-time winner Pershing (E. Crublet) appears to be in brilliant form.
Hefty Prize Money at the 2026 BBAG Auction Race in Iffezheim
A strong program of ten races (the first race starts at 11:14 a.m. due to the broadcast of several races to PMU betting outlets in France; the gates open at 10 a.m.) awaits visitors on the second day of the “Grosse Woche.” A substantial prize purse of 102,500 euros is up for grabs in the 2026 Iffezheim BBAG Auction Race, a 1,200-meter event for two-year-old fillies that were offered here in the auction ring as yearlings in 2025. With twelve fillies, the field is top-notch. Here, Zauberflöte (T. Hammer-Hansen) could already celebrate her second victory in Baden-Baden. She has already distinguished herself in the BBAG Badener Jugendpreis. The filly wears the colors of owner Thomas Jander, as does Nyela (M. Seidl), who was victorious in Cologne.
Top Betting Offers
There’s plenty in store for bettors. Three four-horse wagers will be offered that day. The payout is 10,000 euros each for Race 3 (Handicap IV, 2,400 m), Race 5 (Handicap III, 2,400 m), and Race 10 (Handicap II, 1,200 m). There’s also 10,000 euros to be won in the V4 bet covering races 7 through 10.
