Big Week, August 29–September 6, 2026, in Baden-Baden • Iffezheim:
The Ladies' Big Day: The T. von Zastrow Mare Stakes
Baden-Baden-Iffezheim, September 2, 2026 (MH) – Kicking off the final weekend of the 2026 Grosse Woche: Ladies’ Day on Saturday at the racetrack in Baden-Baden-Iffezheim will once again be a first-class racing event with a particularly high social profile: Of course, the main event on the fourth day of the meet is dedicated to the fillies—the T. von Zastrow Stutenpreis, held under the patronage of the von Zastrow family. The Group II race, with a purse of 70,000 euros and run over a distance of 2,400 meters, is considered one of Germany’s most important races for fillies and mares and attracts ten top-class three-year-olds and older fillies and mares.
The goal for the starters is “Black Type”: If a horse places in such an event, its name appears in bold in the auction catalog, which is important for its breeding value. The five-time Group winner Santagada (B. Murzabayev) from Gestüt Park Wiedingen seems to be in excellent form, having recently faced tougher competition in the Grosser Dallmayr-Preis. A year ago, she finished fourth here, while her stablemate Egina stepped up to the plate. Ruby Lips (R. Piechulek) is the recent Listed race winner. Last year’s fifth-place finisher, Innora (L. Wolff), is known, among other things, for her second-place finish in the 2025 Henkel – Preis der Diana.
Revenge on Diana
We can look forward with particular anticipation to a few contenders from the Henkel-Preis der Diana in Düsseldorf. Noble Lips (B. Marie) impressed in third place, while Night Breath (S. Vogt), one of the co-favorites, was let down by the way the race unfolded. With Light the Ghost (M. Grandin) and Calasita (C. Lecoeuvre) sporting the world-famous colors of the Aga Khan Studs, two French mares provide the international flair.
WACKENHUT Fillies Cup Features a Strong Field
The supporting program—featuring a total of nine races starting at 1:30 p.m. (gates open at 12:00 p.m.)—will also put the spotlight on the fillies. The WACKENHUT Fillies Cup (Listed race, 30,000 euros, 1,800 m) promises an exciting field of 13 international contenders. Four guest mares from France will be making an appearance. Among the German contenders, La Spezia (L. Wolff) is aiming for a hat trick after two wins in auction races. Santa Catarina (T. Hammer-Hansen), another Diana Stakes starter, could also be among the frontrunners here (she finished eighth in that classic race).
40,000 euros in the V4 bet
Of course, the betting lineup is also impressive—with three four-horse bets, each offering a guaranteed prize pool of 10,000 euros in Races 3 (Handicap IV, 2,200 m), 5 (Handicap II, 2,400 m), and 9 (Handicap IV, 1,200 m). A total of 40,000 euros (including a jackpot of 17,294.25 euros) is up for grabs in the V4 bet for Races 6 through 9.
