De Vries as if unleashed: Favorite hit with the Englishman Kylian in the Casino Baden-Baden Silver Whip
Baden-Baden-Iffezheim, June 01, 2025 (MH) - He was the dominant performer at the spring meeting on the racecourse in Baden-Baden-Iffezheim: What Adrie de Vries conjured up on the turf here, as in the weeks before, was simply breathtaking. With a total of eight victories, he was the top rider at the Volksbank pur Meetingschampionat. On the final Sunday, the classy jockey won the most important race of the supporting program, the Casino Baden-Baden Silberne Peitsche (Listed race, 25,000 euros, 1,200 m) - with the English favourite Kylian (2.6:1). The test often also serves as preparation for the Casino Baden-Baden Goldene Peitsche at the Grosse Woche.
Widely traveled winner
In fourth place, De Vries served up a perfect race for the four-year-old gelding, who has already run in Dubai and is trained by Archie Watson for Sheikh Hamed Dalmook al Maktoum, in his seventh meeting win. On the outside rails, this team gained an advantage of three quarters of a length over the German sprinters. 15,000 euros were awarded for Kylian's sixth win at the 20th start.
"I was in a great position and was happy when the gap opened up. He gave a great performance," reported Adrie de Vries. Last year's winner Schützenzauber was still very strong in second place. "It was his second start after a break. He is finding his old form again. He was no match for the winner," said trainer Jean-Pierre Carvalho. The track specialist Zerostress was also close behind in third. "I'm very happy because he put up a great fight despite not having the ideal starting box," said his trainer Sascha Smrczek.
Schiergen again and again
The form of Cologne trainer Peter Schiergen continues to be remarkable, who immediately won the opening test over 2,400 meters with Gestüt Ohlerweiherhof's Santa Carolina (7.6:1) with Leon Wolff against the favourite Kolumban (owned by Turfsyndikat Baden-Baden) and Ayres.
An absolute picture-book handicap was the level II over 1,200 meters, which was won in the very last meters by the Czech giant Sadalbari (26:1) ahead of Wikinger, Rogue Spirit and War Bride. Benjamin Marie, the young jockey from France, who had already won the Kronimus Badener Meile with Short Final on Thursday, once again distinguished himself with a top finish. The four-horse bet paid 5,090:1 euros.
Third Iffezheim goal for Done Decision
The race of the meeting was a 1,600 meter level III, as a guaranteed payout of 30,000 euros (including a jackpot of 11,228.62 euros) was offered in the four-horse betting. In the third Iffezheim success of the Dutch guest Done Decision (6:1) under Thore Hammer-Hansen, Vamos a Marte, Quiara and Arabico completed the four-horse bet, which brought 2,531.1:1 euros.
In a race for the Mehl-Mülhens-Stiftung - Nachwuchsförderpreis (level IV, 1,600 m), the Dutch trainer Romy van der Meulen achieved her second success after Done Decision - with Red Nugget (4.3:1), ridden by Nina Baltromei.
Birthday present for Alexander Pietsch
That's what you call perfect timing: In the final 2,400 meter level II, jockey Alexander Pietsch celebrated another success with Kalia (4.2:1) on his 53rd birthday; it was also the first Iffezheim victory for former jockey Andreas Helfenbein as trainer, the second overall. Lord of the Alps, Launching Percy and Imaran (after the original fourth-placed Moderator was disqualified) finished second to fourth in the four-horse race at odds of xxx:1.
The betting turnover in the ten races amounted to 723,970.254 euros. The presentation of the ex-Galoppers during the event met with a great response.
