The Grand Finale at the Spring Meeting featuring the Derby winner
Baden-Baden-Iffezheim, June 5, 2026 (MH) – Grand finale on Sunday, June 7, 2026, at the Spring Meeting at the racetrack in Baden-Baden-Iffezheim: Baden Galopp presents the Grand Prix stars in the Tattersalls Grand Prix (Group II, €70,000, 2,200 m), which is held under the patronage of one of the world’s largest auction houses from England. The race seeks to crown the successor to last year’s winner, Lordano. In 2012, Danedream, the German wonder filly and later Arc winner, claimed victory in this race.
Hochkönig is challenging the Ittlingers once again
Of course, last year’s Derby winner Hochkönig is one of the race’s main attractions. In 2025, under jockey Nina Baltromei, he secured the first victory by a female jockey in the Race of Races in Hamburg. Unfortunately, Nina Baltromei was injured during training on Monday and will be sidelined for an extended period. English jockey Jack Mitchell, who won the 1,000 Guineas in Düsseldorf on Sunday aboard Timeforshowcasing, will take over the ride.
Hochkönig’s comeback as the fourth-place finisher in the Sauren Dachfonds Prize in Cologne is something he will surely surpass now that his condition has improved. Of course, he must first and foremost defeat the two top contenders from the Ittlingen Stud, trained by Marcel Weiß. On the one hand, there is Alleno (S. Vogt), who recently won convincingly in Cologne, finishing well ahead of Hochkönig; on the other hand, there is Lordano (T. Hammer-Hansen), last year’s winner and the winner of the Oleander Race in Berlin-Hoppegarten. Wintertraum (R. Piechulek) also ran a strong race, finishing second in Cologne.
Trainer Peter Schiergen also has two entries: Wilko (B. Murzabayev), who is in top form, and Lifetimes (L. Wolff), a former winter favorite. Ami De Vega (O. Wilson), a guest from Norway, will also be traveling to Iffezheim. The nine-horse field is rounded out by Atoso (M. Malacova) and Delgardo (M. Abik).
Sprint Stars at the Casino Baden-Baden Silver Whip
The program for the final Sunday at Iffezheim features ten races. The first race starts at 11:15 a.m. (gates open at 10 a.m.), as several races will be broadcast to the approximately 13,000 betting outlets of the French betting giant PMU. This is a premium race day. All races offer prize money of at least 15,000 euros.
The main attraction on the supporting card is the Casino Baden-Baden Silberne Peitsche (Listed race, €30,000, 1,200 m), which is once again likely to serve as a key test for the Casino Baden-Baden Goldene Peitsche during the Grosse Woche. Zerostress (M. Cadeddu), a former winner of Germany’s most prestigious sprint race, will also be in the starting gate. Iffezheim-based trainer Fabian Xaver Weißmeier is backing Mister Sketch (S. Vogt). Guests from France are set to make the race even more exciting.
In addition, there are many high-stakes handicap races and a race for the Mehl-Mülhens Foundation’s Young Talent Award for jockeys under 30.
First-ever QUINTETT bet in Iffezheim
Of course, Sunday is also a special day for all horse racing fans. The new QUINTETT bet will be offered for the first time in Iffezheim (in the 6th race). In this bet, you must pick the first five horses in the correct order. The prize pool is guaranteed at 25,000 euros (including a jackpot of 6,322.86 euros).
The V4 bet is offered twice. A prize of 10,000 euros is up for grabs in the 3rd and 10th races. A prize of 10,000 euros is also available for the V4 bet in races 7 through 10.
Special Features
On the final day of the Spring Meeting, “The Golden Horse Amazon Series”—a new, multi-meeting series of three races for female jockeys—will kick off. Please refer to the separate press release for more information.
Finally, Lars-Wilhelm Baumgarten, co-founder of the successful Liberty Racing Syndicates, former board member of Deutscher Galopp, and former advisor to many top athletes, will present his book *Tore des Lebens*. The interview with him will take place between the 5th and 6th races around 1:45 p.m. in the parade ring, and afterward, Lars-Wilhelm Baumgarten will be available for a book signing at the racetrack shop. The book will, of course, also be available for purchase there.
Tickets for all areas are available via the website www.badengalopp.de.
