PRESS RELEASE
Spring Meeting from May 30 - June 02, 2024 in Baden-Baden - Iffezheim:
The grand finale: serial winner Lordano and other turf stars in the Badische Wirtschaft Grand Prix
Baden-Baden-Iffezheim, May 31, 2024 (MH) - What a finale on Sunday, June 2, 2024, for the spring meeting at the racecourse in Baden-Baden-Iffezheim. Baden Galopp presents a summit meeting of the four-legged stars in the Grand Prix of the Baden Economy (Group II, 70,000 euros, 2,200 m). The search is on for the successor to last year's winner Northern Ruler. Danedream, the German wonder mare, secured this highlight race in 2012.
The new edition is also teeming with class horses: First and foremost the aforementioned favorite Lordano (A. de Vries), who is prepared by Marcel Weiß in Mülheim for the Ittlingen stud of furniture entrepreneur Manfred Ostermann. The five-year-old gelding's development over a wide variety of distances has been phenomenal. He has turned seven of his nine races to date into successes, winning four races in a row, including three group races. He has already distinguished himself twice in Baden-Baden, in December 2022 in a level III and last year in the Baden-Baden Steher Cup (Listed race). The Adlerflug son recently won the Carl Jaspers Prize in Cologne with a huge fighting spirit, leaving his current rivals behind.
Big revenge game
Mr Hollywood (L. Wolff) is the 2023 Derby runner-up who finished second here in the 2023 WETTSTAR.de - Grosser Preis von Baden ahead of Straight (E. Pedroza), who is also competing. He won a Listed race against Derby winner Fantastic Moon at Hoppegarten in his 2024 season debut before finishing fourth to Lordano in Cologne, where he fell somewhat short of expectations. Every drop of rain increases his chances. Third place in the cathedral city went to Group I winner Tünnes (A. Starke), who belongs to the Cologne and Baden-Baden-based ambulance entrepreneur Holger Renz, after a long lead. After a long break, his comeback was very promising.
Last year's runner-up Best of Lips (H. Boutin), Petit Marin (T. Hammer-Hansen), whose jockey is a son of former Iffezheim trainer Lennart Hammer-Hansen, and Mansour (M. Abik) are also established Group horses. The eight-strong line-up is completed by Napolitano (B. Murzabayev), a former Derby hopeful.
Charity action
Once again, the motto of the race day is "Badische Wirtschaft meets Herzenssache". The partners of the Baden Business Grand Prix support the charitable organization "Herzenssache". The children's charity, in which Südwestrundfunk (SWR) is also involved, is committed to helping disadvantaged children and young people in Baden-Württemberg, Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland.
Casino Baden-Baden Silver whip with short-distance aces
The big program on the final Sunday in Iffezheim comprises eleven races. The first race starts at 11:15 a.m., as four competitions will be broadcast to the approximately 13,000 betting outlets of the French betting multinational PMU.
One of the drawcards in the supporting program is the Casino Baden-Baden Silberne Peitsche (Listed race, €25,000, 1,200 m), which should once again be an important test for the Casino Baden-Baden Goldene Peitsche at the Grosse Woche. Zerostress (B. Murzabayev) delighted his large group of owners with his success in the Casino Baden-Baden Goldene Peitsche and now wants to win "silver". Danelo (M. Abik) from Ittlingen has been a top-class sprinter for years and has just put himself in the limelight again in a similar competition in Hanover. A strong field of twelve makes the test extremely exciting.
Premiere for the Stall Siepenblick Derby test
The Stall Siepenblick Derby Test (15,000 euros, 2,400 m) will have its premiere. Owner and breeder Lothar Grabe created the only preparatory race for the Blue Riband over the distance required there and has come up with something very special for the prize of honor: the owner of the winning horse can choose one of two original paintings (oil on canvas) by the recently deceased horse painter Klaus Philipp. The estimated value of each of the unique pieces is around 6,000 euros. Gabriele Gaul is hoping for Ericson (A. de Vries), trained on site by Carmen Bocskai.
In a race for the Mehl-Mülhens Foundation's Young Rider Prize, talented riders under the age of 30 will be challenged. There is also a race for the Fegentri World Championship for Lady Riders.
Betting attractions of a special kind
Of course, Sunday is also a day of celebration for all weathers.
The four-race bet is offered three times. 20,000 euros are up for grabs in the 6th race, 10,000 euros each in the 3rd race and the final 11th race. 10,000 euros are available on the V4 bet in races 7, 8, 10 and 11.
