Big Week from August 27 - September 4, 2022 in Baden-Baden - Iffezheim:
Big Week starts in ten days with top-class sport - Oettingen Race under new patronage
Baden-Baden/Iffezheim, August 17, 2022 (MH). In ten days, the biggest gallop meeting of the year will start at the racecourse in Baden-Baden-Iffezheim - the Grosse Woche 2022 with five days of racing from Saturday, August 27 to the crowning finale on Sunday, September 4, 2022 with the 152nd Wettstar Grosser Preis von Baden (Group I, 200,000 euros) on Sunday, September 4. The countdown to the racing festival has long since begun.
On Tuesday, August 16, entries for the races of the supporting program of the first weekend closed. Entries for the group races had already been submitted earlier. Once again, the Great Week will be a meeting of national and international thoroughbreds, and the program is garnished with attractive handicaps and thrilling races.
Focus on long-distance athletes
On the opening day (August 27), in addition to the 67th Prize of the Sparkassen-Finanzgruppe (Group III, €55,000, 2,400 m), the Happy Birthday Mami - 80 Years Alexa Gräfin zu Solms Cup (Listed race, €25,000, 2,800 m) will be the focus of interest with a long-distance race. 19 horses have been entered, including Alerta Roja, a mare from England owned by Tetra Pak heiress Kirsten Rausing, and Auenfürst, a guest from Sweden. Trainer Markus Klug has the largest contingent with four horses.
Big payday for two-year-old mares
The response for the two-year-old class (10,000 euros, 1,400 m) was also strong with twelve horses. Here, too, Markus Klug has an interesting hope with Röttgener Dressman (runner-up in the Cologne auction race). Eight races will be held on the first Saturday. The first race will start at 13:30.
The second day of racing, Sunday, August 28, will naturally be dominated by the most important German sprint race, the 152nd Casino Baden-Baden Goldene Peitsche (Group III, €55,000, 1,200 m). The Darley BBAG Auction Race for two-year-old mares, for which 19 candidates are currently still in contention, offers an impressive 102,500 euros. The Mülheim trainer Axel Kleinkorres is currently particularly involved here with four mares.
Young riders take to the saddle in a round of the Mehl-Mülhens Foundation's Young Rider Prize. Twelve horses have been announced for this competition. Nine races are planned for the first Sunday, with the first race also scheduled to start at 13:30. Entries for the other three race days will close on Tuesday, August 23. You will receive more information in a press release after our press conference.
The Baden design and contract furniture manufacturer Brunner is a new partner of Baden Galopp
The internationally successful company from Rheinau is taking over the patronage of the traditional Oettingen Rennen, a Group 2 race over 1,600 m, which will be held for the first time this year under the title "Brunner- Oettingen Rennen". Company founder and managing director Rolf Brunner has been involved in horse racing for many decades and supports the regional approach of the new operator of the Baden-Baden | Iffezheim racecourse with his commitment to Baden Galopp. "As a family of entrepreneurs from Baden, we are happy to support the flagship projects of our region. This undoubtedly includes the international horse races in Iffezheim, regardless of my personal passion for horse racing," says Rolf Brunner, explaining the new partnership.
"We are delighted to have found a world-renowned and renowned partner in the Brunner Group, who also shares our passion for the English thoroughbred," says Stephan Buchner, Managing Partner of Baden Galopp.
