Sales & Racing OktoberFESTival in Baden-Baden - Iffezheim from 15 to 17 October 2021
Baden-Baden/Iffezheim, October 17, 2021 (MH). With Liang Kay, owner Ina Emma Zimmermann (Haus Zoppenbroich Stud) already owned the runner-up in the Prize of the Winter Favorite in 2007, and on Sunday the owner, who lives in the immediate vicinity of Zoppenbroich Stud in Mönchengladbach, was delighted to triumph in the most important race for two-year-old mares: In "Die Winterkönigin - Preis des Derbysiegers Sisfahan" (Group III, 105,000 euros, 1,600 m), the Zarak daughter, trained by Peter Schiergen in Cologne and masterfully ridden by champion Bauyrzhan Murzabayev, dominated this highlight at the Sales & Racing OktoberFESTival on Sunday at the racecourse in Baden-Baden-Iffezheim as a 6.4:1 chance. New partners for the race were Stefan Oschmann and Michael Motschmann, owners of the Derby winner Sisfahan.
Early preliminary decision
Entering the home stretch, Murzabayev gave the signal to go and stormed away from the competition after an ideal race from the very front on the outside to a clear lead. With a lead of two and a quarter lengths Lizaid, who thus remains unbeaten after two starts and brought 60,000 euros in victory premium to the account of her owner, set the course for victory against the long leading outsider Rondina and Sibylle Vogt's ride Barina, who like the winner came from the Schiergen stable.
Bad luck for the favorite
The favorite Lacuna had a very unlucky race course as fourth from last place and found much too late into the game, also the highly traded Enjoy The Dream had a lot against her as fifth. The Iffezheim local heroine Artemia also played no role in ninth place.
Voices of the stakeholders:
Bauyrzhan Murzabayev (jockey of the winner Lizaid): "I had great guts on Lizaid. She has a big heart. More speed would have been even better, but she got away from her opponents early."
Peter Schiergen (trainer of the winner Lizaid and the third Barina): "At the beginning there was little speed. But Bauyrzhan didn't let that impress her on Lizaid. This is a great mare. Barina also did very well in third."
Waldemar Hickst (trainer of the runner-up Rondina): "Rondina did very well. It was also a great ride by Alexander Pietsch. I always had a good opinion of her."
Henk Grewe (trainer of fourth-placed Lacuna): "She was very unfortunate, because Lacuna was supposed to go in the lead. Now she went last on the way and had little space on the home stretch. Everything went completely against the plan."
