Press release
Big Week from August 30 - September 07, 2025 in Baden-Baden - Iffezheim:
1.5 million euros in race prizes, six group races and many betting attractions at the Great Week 2025
Baden-Baden-Iffezheim, August 26, 2025 (MH) - The top race meeting of 2025 at the racecourse in Baden-Baden-Iffezheim once again promises a series of top-class sporting events over five days of racing: Around 1.5 million euros in race prizes (including breeders' premiums) will be paid out at the 2025 Grand Prix Week from Saturday, August 30 to Sunday, September 7, presented by Baden Galopp. 47 races are scheduled, including six group races (one each day, two on the final Sunday). There are also three Listed races and two BBAG auction races. Of course, bettors will also get their money's worth - with attractive guaranteed payouts in the four-horse bet and the V4 bet.
The order of the race days remains as usual Saturday, Sunday, Wednesday, Saturday, Sunday. On the race-free Friday, September 6, the focus will be on Germany's most important auction of racehorses, the BBAG Yearling Auction. The four-legged cracks of tomorrow will be offered here.
Below is an overview of the program highlights:
Saturday, 30.08.:
70th Prize of the Sparkassen-Finanzgruppe (Group III, 55,000 euros, 2,000 m):
The first group race of the Great Week 2025 is also an anniversary: the Sparkassen-Finanzgruppe Prize, which is in the tradition of the Spreti-Rennen, will be held for the 70th time and has long been a race for real top gallopers thanks to the support of the financial institution.
There could be a very emotional moment with Quest the Moon. Just a few days after the death of his owner, the bedroom furniture entrepreneur Hans-Gerd Wernicke, one of his showpiece horses is back in action. Quest the Moon is well known in Iffezheim, as he won this competition in 2021, having already won the Kronimus - Grosser Preis der Badischen Wirtschaft in 2020. With the Lotto Hamburg Grand Prix, the gelding trained by Sarah Steinberg also proved as a nine-year-old that he still has plenty of class. The former series winner Daydream Express and Arnis Master, who has just been successful in a group race in Italy, also look very interesting.
Stall Siepenblick 2.8 Steher Cup (Listed race, 25,000 euros, 2,800 m):
The longest race of the day is called Stall Siepenblick 2.8, goes over 2,800 meters and is under the patronage of the racing stable of breeder and owner Lothar Grabe. Waldemar Hickst's Partnun is one of the candidates with a particularly good chance here after his place of honor in the Hoppegarten Steher Prize. A special feature will be that the owner of the winning horse can choose an honorary prize from two suggestions.
Eight races will be held on the opening day, including a 20,000 euro compensation I. The first start is scheduled for 13:30.
Sunday, 31.08.:
155th Casino Baden-Baden Golden Whip (Group III, 70,000 euros, 1,200 m):
The most coveted prize in German horse racing is a gold-plated whip with all the winners from the history of the race engraved on it - but the Casino Baden-Baden Golden Whip also has a particularly high status in other respects, as it is the most important short-distance race in Germany. As a rule, an international line-up of top sprinters compete in the competition, which is once again sponsored by Casino Baden-Baden.
It is the special race of the indestructible Zerostress, who Sascha Smrczek always takes to new heights for the owners of Stalles Rom. His triumph here in 2023 caused collective jubilation, and he has just secured the Hoppegarten Fliegerpreis after a great battle against Schützenzauber, who finished second in the Casino Baden-Baden Silberne Peitsche to the Englishman Kylian, who could also be back.
Iffezheim BBAG Auction Race 2025 (102,500 euros, 1,200 m):
An impressive 102,500 euros in prize money is up for grabs in the Iffezheim BBAG Auction Race, in which two-year-old mares offered as yearlings by the Baden-Baden auction company are eligible to compete. This makes it the second highest-paying race of the Great Week. Righthere Rightnow is the hope of trainer Henk Grewe, who has a very good record in this type of race.
Mon Coeur Allemand, owned by Am Iffzer Eck Stables, could also be in the running for the 50,000 euro prize money.
Ten races will be offered on the second day of the meeting. As several races will also be broadcast to France, the first stage will start at 11:14 am.
Wednesday, 03.09.:
152nd Renate and Albrecht Woeste Future Race (Group III, 55,000 euros, 1,400 m):
The Honorary President of Deutscher Galopp and his wife have been partners in this important competition for two-year-old youngsters for several years. In 2024, trainer Peter Schiergen dominated here, producing the top two finishers with Santagada and Dhitjari. This time, Gestüt Ittlingen's Nitaro could finish well ahead after his debut victory in Cologne. Very interesting are Zuender, who won the BBAG Badener Jugendpreis and recently also in Munich, Gostam, who was also very impressive in Munich, as well as Voitton and Perito, the two winners of the BBAG auction race in Cologne.
Prize of the BBAG Yearling Auction 2025 (52,000 euros, 2,400 m):
Shortly before the most important auction of racehorses in Germany, the BBAG Yearling Auction on Friday, three-year-old candidates are up for grabs in the BBAG Yearling Auction 2025. Trainer Henk Grewe, in particular, could make a big attack here with the Derby fourth Enzian, among others. Gerald Geisler's Bandida Estrellita and Que Bella, who is owned by Turfsyndikat Baden-Baden, are also currently in the line-up.
Coolmore Stud Baden-Baden Cup (Listed race, 25,000 euros, 1,800 m):
Top-class three-year-old and older mares are heading for the Coolmore Stud Baden-Baden Cup, which is being held for the 25th time under the patronage of one of the world's most important breeding studs from Ireland. Coffee entrepreneur and Derby sponsor Albert Darboven could once again come into his own here with the Hoppegarten Listed winner Koffi Kick.
Ten races are on the card on the third day of the meeting. Once again, races will also be broadcast by PMU to around 13,000 betting outlets in France. The first start will be at 11:07 am.
Saturday, 06.09.:
70th T. von Zastrow Mare Prize (Group II, 70,000 euros, 2,400 m):
One of the most important mare races in this country is the mare prize of the same name, which is, as always, under the patronage of the T. von Zastrow Foundation. Here, Gestüt Park Wiedingen's Egina and North Reliance could renew their confrontation from the Baden-Baden Hotel & Catering Prize at the spring meeting. Innora, Nyra and Lady Charlotte have a lot of class as second, third and fifth in the Henkel Prize of Diana. Gerald Geisler may be involved here with Tanami Starlet.
WACKENHUT Fillies Cup (Listed race, 25,000 euros, 1,400 m):
Of course there will be another highlight for the ladies on Ladies Day with the WACKENHUT Fillies Cup. Gestüt Brümmerhof's Quebec is a candidate with a lot of class. Gerald Geisler's Pershing and Dakota Girl also have a commitment here.
Nine races will be run on the fourth day of the meeting, including the Gestüt Etzean Winterkönigin Trial (€10,000, 1,400 m) as a preparatory race for the Carla Kellner Zukunftsrennen - Preis der Winterkönigin at the Sales & Racing Festival. The first start is at 13:30.
Sunday, 07.09.:
WETTSTAR.de - 155th Grand Prix of Baden (Group I, 300,000 euros, 2,400 m):
300,000 euros in prize money and plenty of prestige await in the most important race of the year in Iffezheim, the WETTSTAR.de - 155th Grand Prix of Baden on the final Sunday, which is once again sponsored by the most important horse betting broker in Germany. Of course, there are elite horses to look forward to, especially as this is an important test for the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe in Paris-Longchamp, the top race on the galloping globe. Two German Arc winners, Danedream and Torquator Tasso, are also on the list of winners. A year ago, Fantastic Moon triumphed in the Group I race, which has been held since 1858.
Numerous cracks from Germany and abroad have been named, including Rebel's Romance, the two-time winner of the Grand Prix of Berlin and the Breeders' Cup Turf, and the former King George hero Goliath, who has already been announced as a firm starter.
The first appearance of Derby winner Hochkönig from Yasmin Almenräder's stables in Mülheim since the Hamburg Derby was particularly exciting. He made the headlines, as it was the first success for a woman in the saddle in a top race in this country under apprentice Nina Baltromei. The WETTSTAR.de - 155th Grand Prix of Baden will once again be broadcast to Hong Kong and will be part of the World Pool with its millions in turnover.
92nd Brunner-Oettingen Race (Group II, 70,000 euros, 1,600 m):
Classy horses meet in the 92nd Brunner-Oettingen-Rennen. Last year's winner Penalty could also be in the mix, as could Geography, the two-time winner of the Fritz Henkel Prize in Düsseldorf.
Ten races (some with PMU accompaniment) will be held on the final day, including a €25,000 Compensation I. As this is a so-called premium race day, all classes are endowed with at least €15,000 in prize money. The first start is scheduled for 11:15 am.
Supporting program:
In addition to top-class horse racing, Baden Galopp once again guarantees a varied supporting program with attractive offers for the whole family.
On the first Sunday, August 31, the "Style Challenge" will be held for the third time. In this competition under the motto "Dress like you are already famous", the hat is only part of the overall assessment. Led by presenter and Casinos Baden-Baden testimonial Sylvie Meis, a celebrity jury including Clea-Lacy Juhn and Julia Sowden will select the best overall outfits and reward the most successful participants with valuable prizes. The search on the racecourse begins at 11.30 am.
On the race-free Tuesday, September 2, the traditional soccer match in aid of a charitable institution will take place on the FV Iffezheim sports field from 5:30 pm. This year, however, there will not only be an active game, but also a match between the KSC Allstars and a selection from FV Iffezheim. The proceeds will go in equal parts to the promotion of young talent in horse racing and to the "KSC tut gut" campaign.
"Women power" is in demand on Saturday, September 6. The race day is also "Ladies Day" and the motto is "Today and everyday we celebrate women". All female visitors can look forward to little surprises, including a goodie bag with lots of gifts from Baden Galopp's partners. The tattoo artists from "Unique Art" will also be at the start again.
On the same day, the big active party will once again take place in the Gontard Garden, to which all visitors are of course cordially invited. The band "Sudden Inspiration" will provide the right atmosphere. All Baden Galopp participants are invited to enjoy food and drinks. Admission is free.
Younger racecourse visitors will also get their money's worth with the children's program. They can let off steam for free on all race days in the Kinderland at the main entrance. BGV - Badische Versicherungen is the children's area partner. Horst Jochim's play mobile will be ready for the little ones right by the main entrance next to the beach area. The man from Rastatt brings countless play equipment and vehicles for every age group. Both the little ones and the older ones can ride like a jockey next to the children's area on "Miss Iffi", the electric practice racehorse that Baden Galopp purchased a few years ago with the support of the T. von Zastrow Foundation. In the "Beach Area" to the left of the main entrance, sun loungers on 50 tons of sand and a cocktail bar create a summer feeling with a beach atmosphere. An LED wall will also be set up there for relaxed viewing of the races. The "Café am Führring", which has been run by Torteninsel Baden-Baden since last year, and the Gontard Garten, which has been converted into a summer lounge, are also ideal places to linger. Baden Galopp also offers two free public guided tours every day for those new to the racecourse.
