PRESS RELEASE
Press release Baden Galopp:
Baden-Baden-Iffezheim, May 26, 2025 (MH) – With 27 races, three Group and two Listed races, and prize money of approximately €620,000 (including breeder premiums), the 2025 Spring Meeting, organized by Baden Galopp, will once again be a top season opener at the racecourse in Baden-Baden-Iffezheim. With three days of racing – Thursday, May 29, Saturday, May 31, and Sunday, June 1 – Germany's premium hippodrome will kick off the racing year. On the race-free Friday, May 30, the BBAG (Baden-Baden Auction Company) will present the Spring Auction.
Here is an overview of the program highlights:
Thursday, May 29th: 47th Kronimus Badener Meile (Group III, 55,000 Euro, 1,600 m):
Top-class mile horses compete under the patronage of Kronimus, the Iffezheim-based concrete company that has been one of the most loyal supporters of the Iffezheim racetrack for decades. The prize money for the 1,600-meter course in this Group III test is €55,000. In 2024, Ebbesloh Stud's Arcandi won.
The three-year-old Namaron, winner of the Dr. Busch Memorial, from Henk Grewe's successful stable, will take on other group winners, including his training companion Penalty (winner of the Brunner-Oettingen Race) and Best Lightning (winner of 2022). And Switsch, a current serial winner, is also in the mix.
Prize of the Baden-Baden Hotel & Catering Industry (Listed race, 25,000 euros, 2,200 m):
For many years, there has been a close partnership between the Iffezheim racecourse and the Baden-Baden hotel and catering industry. This partnership finds its sporting expression in this Listed race for four-year-old and older mares. Egina, who recently won a similar race in Hanover, could once again finish well ahead. Iffezheim trainer Gerald Geisler is banking on Tanami Starlet.
Nine races will be offered on the opening day. The first start is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. As on all days, there will be several four-way bets (three on Thursday with a total of €10,000 payout each), as well as the V4 bet with a €10,000 guarantee, as top betting attractions.
Saturday, May 31st: Japan Racing Association – Derby Trial (Group III, 55,000 Euro, 2,000 m):
The Derby Trial, a Group III test over 2,000 meters with a purse of €55,000, is sponsored by one of the world's largest racing organizations, the Japan Racing Association. Winners here automatically qualify for the IDEE German Derby, which will be held in Hamburg on July 6th. In 2024, Augustus won for the Lucky Owner stable and trainer Waldemar Hickst, who is represented this time by two horses: Eagle Emblem and Next Mine.
With Path of Soldier, the winner of the WETTSTAR .de – Bavarian Classic in Munich could land the next coup here.
Eight races will be offered on the second day of the meeting. The Baden Youth Prize (€15,000), the first race for two-year-old horses, and a Handicap I (€20,000) are also fixed events. The first start is at 1:30 p.m.
Sunday, 01.06.: Grand Prix of Tattersalls (Group II, 70,000 Euro, 2,200 m):
The absolute highlight of the Spring Meeting crowns the final day: the Grosse Preis von Tattersalls, sponsored by the Irish auction house, in the tradition of the Grosser Preis der Badischen Wirtschaft. €70,000 will be distributed in this Group II test over 2,200 meters, which was also won by a Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe winner, the wonder mare Danedream, in 2012. Unfortunately, the 2024 race day had to be canceled due to adverse weather conditions. The race, rescheduled a week later in Cologne as the Grosser Preis von WETTSTAR .de, was won by former Derby winner Fantastic Moon.
Lordano, who finished second at the time, Narrativo (also from the Ittlingen stud), who finished third in the WETTSTAR.de – Grosser Preis von Baden, and Wilko, who was so impressive in a Hoppegarten Listed race (second in the 2024 Japan Racing Association Derby Trial), are some of the top stars in the lineup. And with Cold Heart, there's even a possible Brazilian Derby winner, now at home with Peter Schiergen.
Casino Baden-Baden Silver Whip (Listed race, 25,000 euros, 1,200 m):
In addition to the Casino Baden-Baden Golden Whip, which is held during the Grand Week as Germany's most important short-distance race, the Casino Baden-Baden Silver Whip (listed race, €25,000) over 1,200 meters is also a highlight for sprinters. Zerostress is fondly remembered as the winner of the 2023 Casino Baden-Baden Golden Whip.
Ten races will make up the grand finale of the meeting, including several highly endowed handicaps and a race for the Mehl-Mülhens Foundation's Young Talent Award. The first start will be at 11:12 a.m., as several competitions will also be broadcast to France. A particularly attractive guaranteed payout of €30,000 (including €11,228.62) is planned for the final day of the event.
Supporting program:
But there's also plenty of action off the green grass on the expansive grounds of the racecourse. On Thursday, there will be another free beer event from the Franz Brewery. A varied program awaits all children in the BGV Kinderland and, of course, the highly popular mascot race, with a special spectator attraction, once again featuring a children's bet.
The beach area will be transformed into a party zone on Thursday after the final race. With the support of our partner "die neue Welle," DJ Björn Weber will get the crowds going.
Riding like a jockey for once – it's now possible for everyone on "Miss Iffi," the electric training racehorse acquired by Baden Galopp with the support of the T. von Zastrow Foundation. "Miss Iffi" is in action every race day, waiting for young jockeys.
On race-free Fridays, our partner APS offers a racetrack breakfast in the “The Finsher” area, which can be booked via the website aps-service.de.
On Saturday, a special charity race takes center stage. With the "Lotta goes Special Olympics Race," Baden Galopp is supporting Lotta Berglund, a young woman with a difficult past, on her journey to the 2029 Special Olympics figure skating competition.
On Sunday, around 1:30 p.m., a parade of former racehorses will take place in the parade ring. The seven participants, aged between 13 and 26, demonstrate that racehorses have a wonderful life even after their careers.
There will also be plenty of culinary offerings. Huber Event Service will continue to be responsible for the on-site catering and the restaurant areas, while the team led by Peter and Maurice Schreck will be in charge of the high-end catering at the Rizzi & Co. Fine Dining Club. Music will be provided by Olaf Schönborn on his saxophone on Thursday, and the band "Speedos" on Sunday.
